The mission of this role is to oversee and coordinate shift-level production activities, leading team members to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and operational excellence goals. This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor.

This role involves coordinating the activities of production and operating workers, ensuring the team operates at its full capacity to achieve company KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) such as efficiency, yield, scrap, and labor cost. The Production Shift Leader will utilize their leadership skills to effectively manage the team and drive performance.

What you’ll do:

• Champion a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across the facility.
• Operate machinery and fulfill shift lead responsibilities as needed throughout the shift.
• Supervise shift operations and team performance by promoting accountability, evaluating work quality, delivering coaching and mentoring, addressing performance concerns and utilizing progressive disciplinary processes as appropriate to achieve operational objectives.
• Coordinate with management and teammates to resolve production, quality, and maintenance issues.
• Communicate shift plan and pass down information from other shifts.
• In collaboration with the Production Supervisor, manage team performance, including safety, quality, production targets, and breaks.
• Evaluate employee performance through mid-year and annual review process, documenting results, communicating expectations, supporting professional development, and driving continuous improvement in individual and team performance. 
• Enforce safety regulations and PPE compliance.
• Assist the Production Supervisor with the monitoring and tracking of attendance.
• Inspect materials, products, or equipment for defects or malfunctions.
• Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and improve production process flow.
• Conduct employee training on equipment operations, quality, and safety procedures.
• Assist in coordinating activities of employees engaged in processing goods.
• Read and interpret work orders/drawings, production schedules, and other records to determine production requirements.
• Assist in planning work schedules, assignments, and production sequences.
• Observe work and monitor quality to ensure operators conform to standards.
• Set up and adjust machines and equipment.
• Act as communications hub for the team, relaying information between management and production.
• Act as contact for the shift to maintenance, management, etc.
• Collaborate regularly with Quality, Engineering, Customer Service, and Human Resources to support operational objectives and resolve business needs.
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

What you’ll bring:

Education

1. High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

1. Advanced degree preferred.

Required Experience

1. 2 years of leadership experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
2. Understanding of production methods and techniques
3. 5+ years of production experience in a high-performance manufacturing or processing environment
4. Strong commitment to safety
5. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage and resolve workplace conflicts
6. Proven ability to work cooperatively with others while supporting operational and departmental goals

Preferred Skills

1. Lean Manufacturing experience
2. Computer Skills-Microsoft Excel- Word-Outlook-Teams

Working Conditions

1. Work is performed in a non-climate-controlled production environment and may include exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and other conditions associated with manufacturing operations.

Physical Requirements

1. Ability to alternate between sitting and standing as needed throughout the workday.
2. Requires mobility to walk through production, warehouse, and office areas on level surfaces at various intervals throughout the day.
3. Occasional climbing of stairs and ladders to access manufacturing work areas. 
4. Reaching above shoulder heights or below the waist. 
5. Safely lift, move, and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds as part of a team lift, following established lifting procedures and safety guidelines.
