Summary The Supervisory Criminal Investigator serves as a Branch Chief in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Fire Investigation & Arson Enforcement Division, Fire Programs and Training Branch. The Branch Chief provides investigative expertise and oversight for criminal investigations and organizational performance relating to law enforcement programs. Duties Develops and establishes policy concerning overall program objectives, goals, resource requirements and milestones for NCETR‑related programs. Provides advice to and coordinates with Federal, State, local, and foreign law enforcement agencies regarding the benefits of NCETR‑related programs to all law enforcement and forensic organizations. Assures implementation of the goals and objectives for the assigned programs by subordinate organizational units. Directs the accomplishment of work through investigative, instructional, technical, and administrative staff. Exercises delegated managerial authority to set annual or multiyear long‑range work plans and schedules for investigative or administrative work. Requirements Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Selective Service registration is required for males born on or after December 31, 1959. May be required to serve a one‑year probationary period. Must be a current permanent ATF employee with competitive status or a CTAP/RPL eligible candidate. Must pass drug screening and be subject to random drug testing. Must meet all applicable time‑in‑grade requirements by the closing of the announcement. Must be suitable for Federal employment, determined by background investigation. Mobility Plan New employees hired pursuant to this vacancy announcement must sign a mobility agreement. Qualifications At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS‑13). Specialized experience includes: leading investigative procedures; conducting complex analyses; interpreting and applying ATF’s statutory responsibilities; preparing reports of progress, findings, recommendations, and impacts of task force groups. CFI experience is preferred but not required. Probationary Period As a condition of employment, you will be required to serve a 1‑year probationary period during which your fitness and the value of your continued employment to the public interest will be evaluated. Following completion of the probationary period, continued employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
