Spaceport Engineer - Instrumentation
SSC - Swedish Space Corporation
Spaceport Engineer – Instrumentation We invite you to seize the opportunity to make a significant impact as our Spaceport Engineer within Instrumentation in our Orbital Launch and Rocket Test (OLRT) division. As a Spaceport Engineer within Instrumentation, you will play a key role in building and operating the technical systems that enable launch and test activities at Esrange Space Center. This is a hands‑on engineering role at the intersection of hardware, software, and operations, where your work directly impacts the success of launch campaigns. You will be responsible for instrumentation systems connected to OLRT with a strong focus on telemetry, tracking, and RF systems, which are central to the role. The role combines system design, integration, testing, and operational support, requiring both technical depth and the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and disciplines. This is not a purely theoretical or design‑focused position. You will be involved throughout the full lifecycle, from procurement and implementation to testing, troubleshooting, and participation in live operations. If you are motivated by working close to real systems in a complex and evolving environment, this role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to Europe’s growing launch capability. Who you are You are a curious and analytical engineer who enjoys understanding how systems work in practice. You take ownership, collaborate naturally with others, and are comfortable working in an environment where conditions can change and priorities shift. You are solution‑oriented, quick to learn, and motivated by contributing to systems that need to perform reliably in demanding, real‑world situations. Responsibilities Procure, design, implement, and maintain instrumentation systems used in launch facilities, including hardware, software, and supporting tools. Take ownership of instrumentation needs within OLRT, with a key responsibility for telemetry, tracking, and RF systems, including on‑site coordination during operations. Oversee assembly, integration, and installation of systems and components in collaboration with suppliers, technicians, and internal stakeholders. Plan and execute testing and verification of system functionality, performance, and compatibility, and troubleshoot issues impacting operations. Provide technical support and guidance to users and stakeholders across engineering and operations teams. Drive continuous improvements of system design, processes, and workflows to enhance reliability, efficiency, and safety. Participate in operational work, including launch and test campaigns. Requirements Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Several years of experience working with hardware and software systems in a complex technical environment. Hands‑on experience with RF systems, telemetry, or related communication technologies. Experience in system integration, testing, or working close to real‑world operations. Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work hands‑on with technical systems. Ability to collaborate across disciplines and communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Experience within areas such as sensor technology, electronics, or system architecture. Background from industries such as aerospace, telecom, defense, or other technology‑intensive environments. Experience with test and verification, troubleshooting, or simulation work. Valid driver’s license. Benefits A unique opportunity to contribute to a wide range of projects and play an active role in both the Swedish and international space industry. An excellent opportunity for personal and career development. An exciting, international workplace characterized by an open atmosphere and proud employees all over the world. In addition to vacation and traditional public holidays, we offer extra paid leave throughout the year, such as time off between Christmas and New Year, Ascension Day, amounting to 6‑11 extra days depending on the calendar. Wellness allowance of SEK 5,000 per year. Health benefits such as voluntary health insurance and regular health checks for eligible employees. Access to a benefit bike through a tax‑efficient leasing program. Support for employee‑driven activities that promote connection, health, and culture across teams. Collective Agreement, including good pensions plans, parental pay, and insurance. Location This is a full‑time, permanent position based at our office in our space center Esrange outside of Kiruna. #J-18808-Ljbffr
