Family Office Consultant ("FO Consultant") The FO Consultant is a senior specialist within the Private Bank's Family Office Solutions team responsible for advising ultra-high-net-worth families on the formation, design, governance, and evolution of their family offices. Working in close partnership with the Family Office Strategist, the FO Consultant brings deep expertise in family office operating models, governance structures, family enterprise dynamics, succession planning, and organizational design to help families navigate complexity and build sustainable multi-generational enterprises. The FO Consultant serves as a trusted advisor to family principals, family executives, and professional advisors, helping clients evaluate whether a family office is appropriate, define the optimal structure, establish governance frameworks, clarify decision-making processes, and implement best practices that align with family objectives and values. While the Family Office Strategist leads overall business development and coordination of the broader Bank of America platform, the FO Consultant provides specialized advisory expertise in the organizational and governance aspects of family offices. This role requires a highly consultative professional who can facilitate sensitive family discussions, navigate complex family dynamics, develop actionable recommendations, and influence stakeholders across multiple generations. Success requires a blend of strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, executive presence, and deep knowledge of leading family office practices. Key Responsibilities Family Office Formation & Design Advise families on the creation, evolution, and optimization of single-family office structures. Assess client needs and develop recommendations regarding family office operating models, staffing, compensation design, governance, and service delivery frameworks. Guide clients through decisions related to insourcing versus outsourcing functions, organizational structure, and operating efficiency. Assist families evaluating family office formation following liquidity events, business sales, generational wealth transfers, or other significant life events. Develop customized family office roadmaps and implementation strategies. Family Governance & Family Enterprise Advisory Facilitate discussions around family governance, decision-making, communication protocols, and family leadership structures. Advise families on governance best practices, including family councils, family assemblies, investment committees, and advisory boards. Support the development of family mission statements, family constitutions, governance policies, and operating principles. Help families navigate complex family dynamics, generational transitions, and leadership succession challenges. Along with the philanthropic advisors, assist clients with establishing charitable structures covering board oversight, grant strategies and compliance. Partner with clients to strengthen family engagement across current and future generations. Strategic Client Advisory Serve as a trusted advisor to family principals and family office executives on organizational and governance matters. Lead diagnostic assessments and benchmarking exercises to evaluate family office effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities. Present recommendations to family leadership groups, trustees, boards, and advisory committees. Facilitate workshops, governance meetings, family retreats, and strategic planning sessions. Develop customized solutions tailored to the unique needs of each family enterprise. Partnership with Family Office Strategists Partner closely with Family Office Strategists on complex client and prospect opportunities. Participate in client meetings to provide specialized expertise on family office formation, governance, and enterprise structures. Support business development efforts by helping articulate the value of Family Office Solutions capabilities. Collaborate on family office consulting engagements and integrated client solutions. Serve as a subject matter expert supporting Family Office growth initiatives. Thought Leadership & Practice Development Develop insights and thought leadership focused on family governance, family office trends, succession planning, and family enterprise management. Represent the Private Bank at industry conferences, client events, and family office forums. Support educational programs for clients, professional advisors, and internal partners. Monitor industry trends and emerging best practices to enhance the Family Office advisory offering. Help refine and expand the Family Office consulting framework and client engagement model. Leadership Expectations Demonstrate deep expertise in family office governance, formation, and family enterprise consulting. Build trusted relationships with highly sophisticated family principals and executives. Navigate sensitive family dynamics with discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment. Facilitate difficult conversations and help families develop alignment around critical decisions. Influence outcomes through expertise, credibility, and relationship management rather than authority. Partner effectively across a highly matrixed organization. Serve as a recognized thought leader within the Family Office industry. Qualifications Required Qualifications 10+ years of experience advising ultra-high-net-worth families, family offices, private business owners, or family enterprises. Deep expertise in family office formation, governance structures, family enterprise consulting, and multi-generational wealth dynamics. Experience facilitating family meetings, governance discussions, and succession planning conversations. Strong understanding of family office operating models, organizational design, and governance best practices. Knowledge of key regulatory and tax issues that impact family office design. Exceptional communication, facilitation, and executive presence skills. Proven ability to build credibility with family principals, family executives, and external advisors. Strong consulting, project management, and relationship management capabilities. Ability to influence and collaborate across multiple stakeholders and business lines. Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive client situations with discretion and professionalism. Preferred Qualifications Experience working within a family office, multi-family office, family enterprise consulting firm, wealth management organization, or related advisory practice. Knowledge of governance frameworks, leadership succession planning, and family enterprise continuity planning. Experience advising families through significant liquidity events or family office formation projects. Understand the key estate planning techniques employed by family offices to efficiently transfer wealth. Familiarity with Private Bank, Wealth Management, Trust, Banking, Treasury, and Investment solutions. Licenses & Certifications CFP® (Certified Financial Planner) CFA® (Chartered Financial Analyst) CPA (Certified Public Accountant) CTFA (Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor) FFI Certificate (Family Firm Institute) Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA) designation FINRA Series 7 and 66 Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a seasoned family office advisor or family enterprise consultant with a passion for helping ultra-high-net-worth families navigate complexity, build effective governance structures, and create enduring legacies. They combine strong consulting skills with deep family office expertise, excel at facilitating challenging conversations, and have the credibility to advise some of the most sophisticated families served by the Private Bank.
