Position Summary

CURIS is urgently seeking a mid-level Systems Engineer to join our Engineering team at our Oviedo, Florida headquarters. This is a fully in-office position with up to 25% travel to customer sites, vendor locations, and other project-related destinations.

This position combines hands-on systems engineering with technical project management. The Systems Engineer will support the design, development, integration, testing, and execution of complex electromechanical systems while taking ownership of assigned engineering projects from requirements through completion.

The ideal candidate has several years of practical engineering experience and is ready to independently manage technical projects while collaborating across electrical, mechanical, software, controls, manufacturing, and operational disciplines.

We are looking for someone who can understand how complex systems work, identify and solve technical problems, establish clear project plans, and drive projects forward with urgency, organization, and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Engineering & Technical Development

• Support the design, development, integration, and validation of complex electromechanical systems and products.
• Develop and maintain system requirements, specifications, interfaces, and technical documentation.
• Evaluate interactions between electrical, mechanical, software, firmware, controls, sensors, and other system components.
• Perform system-level troubleshooting, technical investigation, and root-cause analysis.
• Support electrical and electromagnetic design considerations, including system compatibility, signal integrity, interference, grounding, shielding, and related performance requirements as applicable.
• Participate in engineering design reviews and provide technical input throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Develop and execute verification and validation plans to confirm systems meet defined functional and performance requirements.
• Identify technical risks, dependencies, design constraints, and potential failure points.
• Support prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and transition from development into production.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Operations, Quality, Customer Success, Sales, and other departments to resolve product and system-level issues.
• Support customer-specific engineering projects, installations, integrations, and technical troubleshooting as required.
• Maintain accurate engineering documentation, test results, design records, and project documentation.

Engineering Project Management

• Independently own and coordinate assigned engineering projects from initial requirements through completion.
• Translate project objectives into clearly defined scopes, deliverables, milestones, schedules, and responsibilities.
• Develop and maintain project schedules, timelines, task lists, and Gantt charts.
• Coordinate work across mechanical, electrical, software, controls, manufacturing, vendors, and other technical resources.
• Source, evaluate, and manage vendors for engineering components and materials, including identifying qualified suppliers, obtaining and comparing quotes, coordinating technical requirements, monitoring lead times and deliverables, and addressing vendor performance or quality issues. 
• Establish clear project priorities and ensure contributors understand deliverables and deadlines.
• Track project progress and proactively identify schedule risks, technical blockers, resource constraints, and dependencies.
• Facilitate engineering project meetings and document decisions, action items, owners, and due dates.
• Follow up on outstanding action items and help maintain accountability for project commitments.
• Communicate project status, risks, delays, and required decisions to the Senior Engineering Manager and appropriate stakeholders.
• Coordinate with vendors, contractors, customers, and external technical partners as necessary.
• Help develop and continuously improve engineering project management processes, documentation standards, workflows, and reporting.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining visibility into priorities, dependencies, and deadlines.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electromagnetic Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of relevant professional engineering experience , preferably involving complex electromechanical or multidisciplinary systems.
• Demonstrated experience managing, leading, or coordinating technical or engineering projects.
• Working knowledge of systems engineering principles, including requirements development, system integration, verification, validation, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to understand and work across electrical, mechanical, software, firmware, and controls disciplines.
• Strong project planning, scheduling, organization, and documentation skills.
• Experience managing project schedules, milestones, deliverables, dependencies, and task ownership.
• Strong analytical and technical problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to independently identify risks and drive technical issues toward resolution.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, leadership, vendors, customers, and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% based on business and project needs.
• Ability to work full-time, in-office at CURIS's Oviedo, Florida location .

Preferred

• Experience with electromagnetic systems, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), electromagnetic interference (EMI), RF, sensors, controls, or related technologies.
• Experience developing complex commercial electromechanical products.
• Experience with embedded systems, PLCs, HMIs, firmware, or industrial control systems.
• Experience with engineering project management software and Gantt-based scheduling.
• Formal project management training or certification.
• Experience working in a small or rapidly growing engineering organization.
• Experience coordinating vendors, contractors, and technical partners.
• Familiarity with regulated product development, verification/validation, design controls, or formal quality systems.
• Experience supporting products from initial concept and prototype through commercialization and production.
• Experience interfacing with customers, both via project calls and onsite visits.
• Experience working with design programs such as WSCAD and Autodesk Fusion.
• Experience in 3D printing and laser etching.

Reporting Structure

The Systems Engineer reports directly to the Senior Engineering Manager and works closely with Engineering, Production, Operations, Quality, Customer Success, Sales, and other functional teams.

The Systems Engineer may coordinate the activities of engineers, technicians, vendors, contractors, and other contributors for assigned projects; however, this position is not currently a direct people-management role .

Travel & Work Location

This position requires up to 25% travel . Travel may include customer-site visits, system installations and integrations, technical troubleshooting, vendor visits, project support, testing, and other business needs.

This is a 100% in-office position based in Oviedo, Florida. This is not a remote position.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on engineering position requiring close collaboration with engineering, production, and operational teams. The Systems Engineer should be comfortable working both at a desk and directly with equipment, prototypes, testing environments, and production systems.

Because of the highly collaborative and hands-on nature of the position, regular full-time attendance at our Oviedo, Florida facility is required.
