Veterinary Technician Lead – Shelter Medicine & Community Engagement Job no: 501555 Work type: Full-Time Location: Glassboro, New Jersey Categories: School of Veterinary Medicine Position Summary The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine (SSVM) at Rowan University is seeking a dedicated and experienced Technician Lead to support the Shelter Medicine & Community Engagement service. This position blends advanced veterinary technical expertise with frontline leadership and operational support in a mission-driven clinical and educational environment. Key responsibilities include providing advanced technical assistance in shelter and community activities, overseeing support staff, managing administrative, budget, and procurement operations, and representing the service at Lead Technician meetings. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Clinical & Technical Support Provide advanced veterinary technical support for shelter and community engagement activities, including patient handling, sample collection, anesthesia assistance, surgical support, treatments, and preventive care. Prepare and maintain clinical equipment, supplies, and mobile/community-based materials. Support medical record documentation and discharge processes. Ensure adherence to standards of patient care, biosecurity, and safety across varied clinical environments. Leadership & Team Oversight Provide day‑to‑day oversight and coordination of technicians and support staff. Assist with workflow organization, case flow, and task delegation. Support onboarding, training, and mentorship of technicians and students. Foster a collaborative, respectful, and accountable team culture. Administrative & Operational Support Support scheduling coordination, service communications, and documentation. Assist with budget‑related processes, expense tracking, and financial documentation. Support procurement and inventory activities, including ordering, stock monitoring, and supply organization. Identify workflow or resource challenges and contribute to operational improvements. Service Representation & Communication Serve as the point of contact at Lead Technician meetings with the Technician Manager. Communicate service needs, updates, and operational considerations. Support alignment between clinical, operational, and educational priorities. Teaching & Academic Support Support veterinary students during clinical skills, labs, and service-based learning activities. Assist with preparation and organization of teaching materials and clinical exercises. Promote a positive learning environment emphasizing patient safety and professionalism. Other Duties Perform additional responsibilities or special projects as assigned. Support departmental, hospital, and community engagement and outreach initiatives as needed. Required Qualifications Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology (or equivalent). Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT) preferred or eligibility for licensure in New Jersey. Minimum 3–5 years of veterinary technical experience; shelter medicine or high-volume surgery experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred. Experience supporting administrative, inventory, or procurement processes is a plus. Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work in diverse clinical environments, including shelters and community-based settings. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Work Environment Combination of clinical, teaching, and administrative/coordination responsibilities. Requires adaptability, teamwork, and commitment to patient care, education, and community engagement. Varying work locations and valid driver’s license required. Working Conditions Hazards: exposure to slips, trips, falls, unpleasant odors, noises, animal waste, bites, and potential bloodborne pathogens, hazardous drugs, radiation, and chemically hazardous substances.
