CORRECTIONAL OFFICER

Job Overview Effective July1,2025 the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP2025) requires each full‑time employee to receive a 3percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5hours of PLP2025 leave credits monthly through June2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. This advertisement is for a Correctional Officer position located at Camp Puerta LaCruz in SanDiego County. The camp houses a minimum‑custody female population of 105 inmates and is staffed by five 14‑person fire crews. The position is a limited‑term contract of 12months, which may be extended up to 24months or made permanent. The office will be in the Office of the Camp Commander/Correctional Sergeant and requires completion of the CDCR Apprenticeship Program. Responsibilities Respond to emergencies, including physical restraint of inmates and coordination of fire assignments. Overall supervisory responsibility during emergencies. Perform assigned duties on a shift rotation: counts, recognition counts, standing counts, temporary releases, inmate transfers, camp register, and supervision of assigned inmates. Conduct daily walk‑around security checks, search for contraband, and inspect vehicles, kitchen, refrigerators, and water heaters for security and safety. Verify visitor compliance: search all items brought into visits, monitor visitor grounds, and enforce camp visiting regulations. Complete three locker/bed area searches during each shift. Provide fire and safety assistance as required, which may involve away‑from‑home duties and outdoor sleeping. Required Qualifications Peace officer status from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Completion of the CDCR Apprenticeship Program. Minimum 12months of experience as a full‑time Correctional Officer with a history of meeting all performance standards. Eligibility for the task force programs listed under the CDCR mission (e.g., fire crew participation). Must be able to work independently, be flexible, and be available to respond to camp emergencies. Possession of valid email address for communication and E‑Verify confirmation of employment authorization. Desirable Qualifications Experience performing rotational fire crew duties and night shift work. Advanced training in security operations and inmate behavior management.
