Director of Collection Management and Discovery Services

Director of Collection Management and Discovery Services Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Director of Collection Management and Discovery Services (CMADS) coordinates the design and implementation of strategies for acquisition, access, and discovery of library collections and information resources and will lead efforts in collection development. The position serves on the library’s leadership team and oversees Acquisitions, Government Documents, and Library Services Platform (LSP) Administration. CMADS works closely with librarians responsible for Electronic Resources and Cataloging to support the acquisition, access, and discovery of library collections and fulfill the teaching, learning, and research needs of the university community. Responsibilities Administrative Duties Plan and facilitate departmental and collections management meetings. Assess and collect statistics related to Collection Management and Discovery Services. Coordinate weekly reporting of CMADS departmental activities to library administration. Complete annual evaluations of staff and handle any other supervisory responsibilities that arise. Plan and facilitate projects related to technical aspects of electronic collections and the software infrastructure essential to library services. Attend and contribute to Leadership Team meetings. Lead departmental initiatives as they arise. Acquisitions Supervise, coach, and guide a newly reclassified staff member in Acquisitions workflows. Collaborate with the Electronic Resources Librarian and Acquisitions and Cataloging Associate to complete fiscal year rollover in the LSP. Electronic Resources Collaborate with the Electronic Resources Librarian to load e‑resource records from vendor‑provided KBART or MARC files for user discovery and access. Create and maintain electronic resource import profiles in the LSP. Government Documents Serve as depository coordinator for the library in coordination with the Federal Regional Depository Librarian. The library is an all‑online depository library. Complete the Biennial Survey of Federal Depository Libraries on behalf of the library. Cataloging & Metadata Services Perform original and complex copy cataloging for serials and electronic resources to facilitate discovery and access. Oversee inventory projects and assist in the ongoing deselection or storage of the collection. Create and maintain OCLC local holding records for serials and multipart monographs. Perform and advise on data migration, harvesting, and syncing projects for discovery services and catalog enhancements. Catalog Maintenance Assess metadata integrity and assist with cataloging remediation and enrichment projects. Direct batch loading, deleting, and global editing of local bibliographic and metadata records. Develop training materials and documentation for catalog maintenance. Library Services Platform Administration Serve as the primary representative for UWG in the University System of Georgia consortia for LSP matters. Maintain LSP configurations to support library functions. Query data and gather statistics from the LSP for analysis, reporting, surveys, and evidence‑based decision making. Troubleshoot problems with the LSP and report to the consortium or vendor as necessary. Support existing and envision potential UWG contributions to relevant user communities and best practices. General Serve on library, institution, system, and regional committees or task forces as assigned. Contribute to the library’s student engagement and research support activities. Engage in professional development to ensure currency in the field. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Education Master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA‑accredited program. Experience and Skills Minimum of three years of progressive experience in cataloging, acquisitions, electronic resource management, or a related field in an academic library setting. Supervisory experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational, project, and time‑management skills. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with ExLibris ALMA, OCLC Connexion client and Collection Manager, ClassWeb, MarcEdit, and GOBI. Demonstrated ability to communicate with and train library staff of varying technical abilities to use the LSP and other technical services workflows. Experience managing acquisitions, including vendor relations, budgeting, resource negotiations, and procurement processes. How to Apply Upload your application at this link .
