Job Description

The Quality Inspector performs dimensional and visual inspections of aircraft details, machined parts, and assemblies to ensure full compliance with customer and internal requirements. This role reviews manufacturing documentation and quality records, uses a wide range of precision measurement tools, and works under the direction of the Supervisor, Inspection in a cell-based manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform dimensional and visual inspections of aircraft details, machine parts, and assemblies to verify compliance with specifications and customer requirements.

• Review manufacturing documentation and quality records thoroughly to ensure they meet all applicable standards and requirements.

• Work from drawings, specifications, bubble drawings, first article inspection reports, work instructions, vendor instructions, and other documentation to plan and execute inspections.

• Use inspection tools and gauges, including calipers, micrometers, protractors, height gauges, pin gauges, dial indicators, portable coordinate measuring devices, hardness testers, conductivity meters, and other precision measuring devices to perform simple to complex inspection operations.

• Perform CMM and FARO inspections as required to validate dimensions and geometrical features of parts and assemblies.

• Visually inspect the condition of materials and parts to identify defects, damage, or nonconformances.

• Assist in determining appropriate inspection techniques and methods for various inspection applications.

• Clearly define nonconforming conditions by documenting engineering requirements, the actual “as is” condition, and the variation from nominal.

• Prepare and complete rejection documentation accurately for nonconforming materials or parts.

• Report unusual circumstances, conditions, or defective material promptly to the supervisor or group leader.

• Participate in root cause identification and corrective action development when required.

• Participate in internal company audits and support customer audits as needed.

• Comply with Quality System procedures and all company policies and procedures.

• Bring any anomalies or irregularities in processes, documentation, or product quality to the attention of the supervisor.

• Work in a cell environment and perform duties that may not be specifically detailed in the job description but are within the scope of the job classification.

• Maintain inspection records and documentation as instructed or required.

• Perform other related duties as needed to support production and quality goals.

Essential Skills

• Experience performing visual inspection and quality checks in a manufacturing or aviation environment.

• Hands-on experience with CMM and FARO inspection equipment.

• Proficiency using measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, height gauges, pin gauges, protractors, dial indicators, and other precision measuring devices.

• Ability to interpret and work from engineering drawings, specifications, bubble drawings, first article inspection reports, work instructions, and vendor instructions.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurement and documentation.

• Ability to clearly document nonconformances, including engineering requirements, actual conditions, and variation from nominal.

• Familiarity with quality inspection processes and practices within manufacturing or aviation.

• Ability to follow and comply with Quality System procedures and company policies.

• High school diploma or GED.

• Approximately 3+ years of related quality inspection experience preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience using portable coordinate measuring devices and other advanced inspection technologies.

• Previous experience in aviation or aerospace component inspection.

• Exposure to specialized skills such as CMM programming, Designated Quality Representative (DQR), or Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI).

• Experience participating in internal and customer audits.

• Ability to assist in root cause analysis and corrective action development.

• Comfort working in a cell-based production environment with changing priorities.

• Strong communication skills to report issues and collaborate with supervisors and team members.

Work Environment

The work environment is a rapidly growing, deadline-intensive manufacturing setting where overtime is required in most positions. Work is performed in a clean, organized, and well-lit facility that is climate controlled, providing a comfortable and consistent environment throughout the year. The company operates in a cell-based layout, and all tools and precision measuring instruments are provided. Safety is a priority, with requirements that include steel-toed boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection where needed. The dress code includes closed-toe shoes, long pants, and t-shirts that are appropriate and non-vulgar. Work is primarily on a first shift schedule (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.), with additional hours as needed to meet deadlines. Different inspector levels (I, II, III) and specialized skills such as CMM, DQR, and NDI may influence pay bands, reflecting a structured and progression-oriented environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jacksonville, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr.
