Role Description The Telematics Solutions Subject Matter Expert (SME) is a full-time, on-site role based in Itasca, IL. This role is designed for a highly skilled expert who thrives at the intersection of technology, data, and client strategy. The Telematics Solutions SME elevates EMKAY’s capabilities by ensuring that telematics and AI-driven solutions are not only implemented—but fully understood, optimized, and continuously improved. The Telematics Solutions SME is EMKAY’s technical and strategic authority on telematics, AI-driven fleet insights, and emerging fleet technologies. This role serves as a trusted advisor to both clients and internal teams, driving the adoption, optimization, and continuous evolution of telematics solutions across the organization. Blending deep subject matter expertise with client-facing consulting, the SME ensures that telematics platforms, device ecosystems, and billing structures deliver measurable business value. This role plays a critical part in shaping best practices, influencing product development, and guiding clients through complex fleet technology transformations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  Subject Matter Expertise & Thought Leadership

• Serve as the organization’s go-to expert on telematics platforms, AI-driven insights, EV fleet technologies, and connected vehicle data.

• Define and standardize best practices for telematics deployment, data utilization, and performance optimization.

• Act as an escalation point for complex technical, operational, and billing-related issues.

• Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies, translating them into actionable strategies for clients and internal teams.

  Client Advisory & Strategic Consulting

• Advise clients on telematics strategy, AI adoption, predictive maintenance, EV integration, and safety optimization.

• Lead high-value client engagements including executive presentations, solution design, and strategic business reviews.

• Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights that drive measurable ROI.

• Guide clients through onboarding, implementation, and long-term optimization of telematics solutions.

Operational Oversight & Technology Enablement

• Provide expert guidance on telematics device performance, connectivity issues, and data integrity.

• Oversee troubleshooting efforts by support teams, vendors, and IT, ensuring timely and effective resolution.

• Ensure strong adoption of telematics platforms through enablement of fleet managers and drivers.

• Establish and maintain documentation, standards, and workflows for telematics systems and support processes.

Analytics, Insights & Optimization

• Analyze telematics and fleet data to identify trends, risks, and cost-saving opportunities.

• Partner with analytics teams to develop predictive models, benchmarks, and performance frameworks.

• Recommend and drive implementation of optimization strategies across client fleets.

Billing Governance & Financial Alignment

• Provide oversight of telematics billing accuracy, ensuring alignment between contracted services, usage, and invoicing.

• Act as a senior escalation point for complex billing discrepancies and vendor-related issues.

• Identify systemic opportunities to improve billing transparency, processes, and cost efficiency.

• Integrate financial insights into client strategy discussions, reinforcing value and ROI.

Cross-Functional Influence & Solution Development

• Collaborate with Sales, Product, IT, Finance, and Operations to shape and refine telematics offerings.

• Influence development of new services, AI capabilities, and modular solutions based on client needs and market trends.

• Support development of proposals, ROI models, and client-facing materials.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree preferred (Business, Data Analytics, Engineering, or related field)

• 5+ years of experience in telematics, fleet management, or technology solutions

• Deep knowledge of telematics platforms (e.g., Geotab), connected vehicle data, and fleet systems

• Strong analytical capabilities with ability to translate complex data into strategic insights

• Proven ability to influence stakeholders and lead through expertise rather than authority

• Experience with AI-driven fleet insights, EV operations, or consultative solution design preferred
