Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:05 AM – 3:35 PM
Wednesday: 8:05 AM – 3:50 PM
Assignment: Elementary School (4th and 5th Grade Students)

 

Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and qualified Special Education Teacher to support elementary school students in grades 4 and 5 for the 2026-2027 school year. The Special Education Teacher will provide specialized instruction and academic support to students with diverse learning needs, helping them achieve their educational goals in an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

This role involves collaborating with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families to develop and implement individualized educational programming while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and district regulations.

Key Responsibilities

 

• Provide direct specialized instruction to students in grades 4 and 5 based on Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives
• Develop, implement, and manage compliant IEPs, including present levels of performance, measurable goals, accommodations, and modifications
• Conduct ongoing assessments and collect data to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions
• Differentiate instruction and adapt curriculum materials to meet the diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students
• Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion, co-teaching, and access to grade-level curriculum
• Implement accommodations, modifications, and behavior intervention plans in accordance with IEP requirements
• Provide small-group and individualized instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, and other academic areas as needed
• Maintain accurate and timely special education documentation, including progress reports, service logs, and evaluation-related records
• Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, annual reviews, and parent conferences
• Work collaboratively with related service providers, school psychologists, administrators, and support staff to address student needs
• Support students' social-emotional development, self-advocacy skills, and independent learning strategies
• Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, goals, and educational supports
• Ensure compliance with IDEA, Illinois State Board of Education regulations, and district special education procedures
• Create and maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment that promotes student success
• Participate in required professional development, staff meetings, and school-based initiatives

 

Qualifications

• Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Special Education endorsement (required)
• Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS1) endorsement (required)
• Previous experience working with elementary-aged students preferred
• Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring
• Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to support students with diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs

 

Additional Requirements

• Current CPR certification (if applicable)
• TB screening (questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray as required)
• Current health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
• Must meet all federal, state, and local employment requirements
• Must be at least 18 years of age
