Responsibilities The Nurse III – House Supervisor performs highly complex nursing work and is responsible for the after‑hours operation of campus‑based nursing services. Key duties include: Manage clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery. Develop and enforce nursing personnel and staffing plans, reassign staff as needed to meet appropriate staffing levels. Serve as a consultant and clinical/administrative expert to all staff after‑hours. Advise and communicate significant events to the Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD), Medical Officer of the Day (MOD), Chief Nurse Executive (CNE), Assistant Chief Nurse Executive (ACNE) and Nurse Manager. Participate in the development of nursing policy and decision‑making as part of the Nursing Clinical Operations Team. Act as Lead Clinical RN as assigned. Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS), Texas Administrative Code (TAC), Texas Board of Nursing, and Texas Nurse Practice Act. Coordinate external visits and requests from investigators, regulatory agencies, law enforcement, and other external customers. Coordinate disaster, emergency, and continuity of operations (COOP) responses and act as Incident Commander after hours. Essential Job Functions Attend work on a regular basis, possibly on rotating or extended shifts. Perform tasks such as: Coordinate after‑hours nursing services and ensure quality patient care. Conduct hospital rounds to promote nursing visibility and assess unit operations. Prepare daily house supervisor reports for hospital leadership. Implement and monitor program‑specific staffing plans. Provide clinical RN coverage as needed. Perform medication administration, treatment, assessment, and patient monitoring. Serve as a subject‑matter expert and consultant to staff and leadership. Act as point of contact for external customers and coordinate investigations. Coordinate admission processes during non‑traditional hours. Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities State and federal laws for individuals with mental health issues. Texas Board of Nursing rules and Texas Nurse Practice Act. Emergency procedures and equipment (CPR, etc.). Nursing care standards, Settlement Agreement, healthcare guidelines. Supervisory skills. Patient care and treatment skills. Problem‑solving and change‑management. Computer and electronic health record proficiency. Time‑management and prioritization. Effective communication to groups and individuals. Collaborative relationship building. Training for all staff levels. Policy and procedure development and reporting. Regulation interpretation and communication. Service evaluation and improvement planning. Coordination of nursing activities. Guidance to others. Continuing education compliance. Licensure Requirements Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas (or a state that recognizes the Nurse Licensure Compact). Initial Screening Criteria Graduation from a Nursing Program accredited by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. At least three (3) years of RN experience in a recognized health agency, hospital, or health‑care facility. Additional Information Background checks: fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE). Immunization policy compliance for hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, and influenza.
