As a participant in the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program at UPMC Williamsport, newly licensed RNs will gain diverse, hands-on experience through a structured, four-month rotation across key inpatient units, including 5 East (Acute Care/Trauma Stepdown), 7 East (Neurology/Oncology), and 6 West (Transitional Care Unit). Throughout the program, you will work alongside experienced nurses who provide mentorship and guidance as you build clinical confidence, expand your skill set, and grow within a collaborative, patient-centered environment. At the conclusion of the program, participants will have the opportunity to identify their best-fit unit and transition into their permanent home department.

UPMC Williamsport is a 224-bed acute care hospital providing exceptional care to Williamsport, PA and the surrounding areas.

5 East Acute Care / Trauma Stepdown 5 East is a 23-bed trauma stepdown and medical-surgical unit where nurses care for patients recovering from acute surgical procedures and complex trauma, including orthopedic injuries and motor vehicle accidents. This unit emphasizes post-surgical recovery, mobility progression, and team-based care through a collaborative care-partner model.

7 East Neurology / Oncology 7 East is a 25-bed neuro-focused unit offering experience with a wide range of neurological conditions, including stroke, seizures, brain tumors, and post-craniotomy care, along with general medical-surgical patients. Nurses build strong neurological assessment skills and have opportunities for future specialization, including chemotherapy certification.

6 West Transitional Care Unit 6 West is a fast-paced medical-surgical unit where nurses care for patients across the full continuum of acute care, from short observation stays to more complex admissions involving multiple body systems. The unit promotes a team-based care model, providing a strong foundation in broad clinical skills, collaboration, and communication.

What Does Placement Look Like Post-GNRP?

• Upon completion of the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program, placements are determined by participant preference, Hiring Manager preference, and business need through a collaborative matching process at UPMC Williamsport.
• Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the My Nursing Career Ladder based on their individual experience and education.

Shift/Hours: Our RNs work a rotating 12-hour schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor and are assigned every other weekend/holiday. GNRP Participants will be able to select either Days with Rotation or Night Shift while participating in the program.

Graduate Nurses are encouraged to apply. GNs must be eligible for State Board Licensure and successfully pass the examination before beginning this role - OR - must have a Temporary Practice Permit and commit to taking the NCLEX examination within 6 months of hire.

Qualifications:

• BSN Preferred
• Completion of UPMC Student Nurse Internship Program or student clinical transitions course at UPMC preferred.
• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
• Understand the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
• Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
• Work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
• Think critically to analyze and problem-solve to deliver the best patient care.
• Use sound clinical judgement, think critically, and problem-solve to deliver quality patient care when it matters most.
• Understand, apply, and champion nursing best practices.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse required prior to program start date
• CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
• Act 34 Criminal Clearance
• Act 33 Clearance
• Act 73 Clearance
• Basic Life Support
