Clinical NurseI (Clin I), Clinical NurseII (Clin II), and Clinical NurseIII (Clin III) roles combine technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet the needs of patients and families. Common responsibilities across all levels include: Prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort. Documentation of direct, age‑specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan of care. Safe administration of prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and interactions. Guidance, education, and development of leadership skills appropriate to unit level. Specific responsibilities vary by level: ClinI: Focus on direction and education. ClinII: Recognize and intervene in changes in patient conditions, mobilize resources, and assume leadership responsibilities. ClinIII: Demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge, anticipate changes, serve as a role model, and may take on additional leadership roles. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire ClinI, ClinII, ClinIII: Current RN licensure in Virginia or an eligible/compact state. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Continued Employment ClinI, ClinII, ClinIII: Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent. Experience REQUIRED: ClinI: N/A ClinII: 12 to 24 months RN experience ClinIII: 3 years of clinical experience PREFERRED: ClinI: Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in an acute care setting or related area. ClinII, ClinIII: Academic health‑care experience; experience with similar patient populations in an acute care setting or related area. Education / Training REQUIRED: Diploma or Associate’s Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing. All registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or higher) must enroll in an approved RN‑to‑BSN program within two years of their start date and complete the program within five years unless grandfathered. PREFERRED: Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program; ClinIII: Certification in specialty area. Independent Actions Required Follow documented physician/licensed independent provider orders. Practice within the boundaries of the regulations governing nursing practice in Virginia. Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established national nursing practice standards. Follow VCUHS policies, procedures, and established practice. Supervisory Responsibilities (if applicable) Organize work; delegate and supervise others (RNs, LPNs, care partners, unit secretaries, etc.) in carrying out assignments. Additional Position Requirements ClinI, ClinII, ClinIII: Work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager. Schedules, including shift rotations and hours, may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements. Age‑Specific Groups Served As appropriate based on unit assignment. Physical Requirements Lift 20–50 lbs. Exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances. Activities: Prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing stairs or ladder, reaching overhead, repetitive tasks.
