Early Childhood Education Instructor
Lyndon Institute
Position: Early Childhood Education Instructor Location: Lyndon Center, VT Job Id: 162 # of Openings: 1 Early Childhood Education CTE Instructor Students in this program move from observing to exploring, from assisting to teaching, and from classroom learning to professional practice. Lyndon Institute is looking for the educator who takes them there. We are hiring an Early Childhood Education Educator to lead a two-year program that prepares high school students for careers in early childhood education through college level coursework, industry recognized credentials, supervised field experience, and a professional portfolio. If you work with young children, you are an educator, and this program helps students claim that title. Vermont needs them, because too many of the state's youngest children still lack access to the quality care they need. The program is entering its third year and has a real home in the early childhood hub right on our campus. The person in this role helps shape what comes next. You will focus heavily on the professional growth of your students, teaching them not only how to guide children, but how to manage and operate a care center of their own. Working alongside our work based learning coordinator, you will help connect students to powerful work based learning opportunities, create tighter links between coursework and daily practice, and build clear routes from graduation into credentials and careers. You will help guide the next phase of early childhood education and care at Lyndon Institute. A living learning lab on campus Northeast Kingdom Community Action (NEKCA) runs a Family Resource Center on the Lyndon Institute campus. It is both a child care center and a family resource center. Alongside classroom care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, NEKCA offers home visiting, playgroups, parent support, early intervention, and essential needs assistance. That makes it far more than a placement site. Our students learn how a whole center operates and how it serves a whole family: how children are cared for, how families are welcomed and supported, and how a team holds all of it together. You will turn that daily reality into a curriculum. What you will do Teach child development, developmentally appropriate practice, positive guidance, inclusive education, observation and assessment, curriculum planning, professional ethics, and family partnerships, aligned with Vermont CTE standards and early learning standards. Teach the first year Community College of Vermont dual enrollment courses: Introduction to Early Childhood Education and Communication in the Early Childhood and Afterschool Workplace. Lead the learning lab and the field experience sequence, from on-campus observation to exploration rotations to second year practicums, working with placement supervisors to build each student's independence. Coordinate second year practicum experiences connected to the VTAEYC Youth Apprenticeship Program, supporting eligible students in applying classroom learning in professional settings. Monitor student progress and collaborate with placement supervisors to support skill development, professional conduct, and increasing independence. Coordinate required industry recognized credentials, including OSHA 10, CPR/AED/First Aid, Vermont Orientation Training, and Mandated Reporter training. Facilitate ongoing professional learning through Better Kid Care training, conferences, workshops, and other early childhood professional development opportunities. Prepare students for employment and postsecondary pathways through career exploration, resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, and professional portfolio presentations. Model ethical practice, professional communication, confidentiality, reflective practice, and collaboration with colleagues and families. Collaborate with Lyndon Institute administration, CCV, NEKCA, VTAEYC, and community partners to strengthen curriculum, expand work based learning opportunities, and support continuous program improvement. Qualifications Required Bachelor's Degree in Education or a closely related field. Successful experiences in early childhood education or elementary education. Licensed as or able to meet the Vermont Standards for CTE licensure for Early Childhood Education. (Lyndon Institute will provide support to the right candidate to get their VT license). Strong instructional, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills. A commitment to mentoring high school students, supporting diverse learners, and preparing future educators. Experience in building and maintaining effective partnerships with community organizations, field placement supervisors, and postsecondary institutions. Excellent written, oral, technological, and interpersonal skills. A joy of learning and of educating young adults. Lyndon Institute is an equal-opportunity employer.
