The Position:

We are hiring a contract Inventory and Supply Chain Accountant to own the inventory and supply chain accounting workstream in D365. This includes the configuration, implementation, and operational rollout of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) for inventory, supply chain management and related modules.

Responsibilities

• Lead inventory and supply chain accounting design and configuration within D365 F&O, including item model groups, storage and tracking dimensions, costing sheets, posting profiles, landed cost, and inventory close/recalculation.
• Establish inventory valuation policy (FIFO, weighted average, standard cost, or moving average) and ensure transactions flow correctly from sub-ledger to general ledger.
• Partner with the EPC, procurement, and project controls teams to account for owner-furnished equipment from PO through receipt, storage, issuance, and capitalization.
• Design and document processes spanning procurement and sourcing, product information management, and warehouse management, ensuring AP, AR, fixed assets, and GL interact cleanly with inventory transactions.
• Drive data migration for opening balances and inventory snapshots, cutover planning, and the inventory close at go-live.
• Write functional design documents, run conference room pilots, build test scripts, and document configuration decisions for handoff to permanent staff.
• Build reconciliations and reporting using Power BI, Excel, and SQL as needed.

Qualifications

Accounting foundation

• Strong cost accounting background with deep understanding of inventory valuation methods and GAAP (or IFRS) inventory accounting, including WIP and variance analysis.
• Prior experience as a controller or cost accountant in industry (manufacturing, distribution, or capital projects) rather than purely public accounting.
• CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification preferred.

D365 F&O expertise

• Hands-on configuration experience with D365 F&O inventory, costing, and posting profiles.
• Working knowledge of adjacent supply chain modules: procurement and sourcing, product information management, warehouse management, and production control where relevant.
• MB-310 (Finance) and/or MB-330 (Supply Chain Management) certifications are strong pluses.

Implementation experience

• Two to three full D365 F&O implementations in a functional consultant, solution architect, or finance lead capacity.
• Familiarity with Sure Step or Microsoft Success by Design methodology, FDDs, CRPs, test design, and cutover execution.

Integration and process skills

• Process mapping in Visio or equivalent; ability to translate business requirements into system configuration.
• Experience integrating D365 with WMS, EDI, 3PL, or e-commerce platforms.
• Comfortable with Power BI, advanced Excel, and basic SQL for reconciliations and reporting.

Contractor traits

• Comfortable with ambiguity and a startup-style build environment.
• Willing to push back constructively on unrealistic configurations.
• Clear documentation habits — what you build needs to be inheritable by the team that takes it over.
• Strong communicator across finance leadership, IT, and implementation partners.
