Staff Perfusionist

The primary function of the Staff Perfusionist is the safe operation and management of extracorporeal circulation equipment (heart/lung machine, veno-venous bypass, ventricular assist devices, extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation) during any medical or surgical procedure where it is necessary to support or replace the patient's cardiopulmonary/circulatory function (open-heart surgery, liver transplantation, etc.). In addition, the Staff Perfusionist is responsible for the set-up, delivery, management, maintenance, and operation of other relevant ancillary services, devices, and equipment. This position requires providing service for adults (18 64 years), older adults (65 years and older), and the frail elderly in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served. There is call (after hours, weekends) required. Holiday call is also required.

Qualifications: Must be graduates of an accredited Perfusion School unless they began their perfusion career prior to April 15, 1981. If they started their perfusion career before April 15, 1981, they must have 2 years of college (60 credits) with an emphasis in science. Bachelor's Degree in healthcare field preferred. New graduates, as well as experienced perfusionists, will be considered for employment. Staff Perfusionists are required to be licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine or the Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine and renewed on a biannual basis. Staff Perfusionists are required to be Certified (CCP) by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. Or Certification Eligible by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ACP). This certification must be obtained within the specified timeframes.
