Refinish Technician

Job Overview Gerber Collision & Glass is looking for a Refinish Technician to deliver exceptional refinishing services and contribute to the team’s quality and safety standards. Key Responsibilities Provide an exceptional customer experience through meticulous refinishing to restore the vehicle to pre‑accident condition. Execute the WOW (Wow Operating Way) plan consistently. Interact positively with customers and team members. Refinish vehicles according to insurance guidelines and Assured Automotive’s quality standards. Inspect body and prep repairs for deficiencies that may impact the refinish process and advise the production supervisor as needed. Ensure all required line items on Repair Orders (RO) are completed to meet Assured’s quality standards. Perform all refinish procedures following factory specifications and Assured procedures. Correct paint deficiencies through wet sand and polishing (e.g., runs, dirt nibs). Maintain proper formulations, preparations, top coating, and curing per OEM recommended standards. Manage paint material costs efficiently as per Assured KPIs. Complete surface preparation, vehicle masking, priming, and top coating as required. Apply primers, sealers, basecoats, color coats, and clear coats with correct formulations. Accurately mix paint to ensure quality color match. Notify the Repair Planner of any additional damage not on the RO. Assist management in recommending and implementing new equipment. Track vehicle status and solve scheduling issues to ensure on‑time delivery. Use required safety equipment and follow proper refinishing procedures in compliance with Ontario Health & Safety guidelines. Adhere to hazardous waste disposal requirements. Follow vendor procedures for tools and equipment maintenance, including paint booth and filters. Explain technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non‑mechanical team members and customers. Continuously learn new technical information and techniques through formal training. Complete the Quality Control (QC) Checklist before moving the vehicle to the next department. Maintain a clean and orderly production area throughout the workday and perform end‑of‑day cleanup. Work according to the daily production schedule directed by the Production Supervisor. Inform the production supervisor of overlooked collision repair problems that impact the production process. Support team members as required. Participate in monthly Health & Safety and staff meetings if required. Attend training, information sessions, and workshops recommended by the Store Manager. Maintain Assured KPIs (Sales/GP/NP/CSI/AR/CT&TT). Uphold Assured’s Core Values: Honesty, Integrity & Respect. Adhere to Assured’s Policies and Procedures according to established business practices. Participate in daily production meetings with the Management Team as required. Demonstrate actions and behaviors supporting the 10 Promise. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 2 years previous experience in a collision repair facility refinish role. Provincial College of Trades Member preferred. PPG Certification preferred. I‑Car Registered (working towards Gold Class certification). Knowledge of manufacturers’ repair/refinishing processes and adherence to Assured’s processes. Proficiency in using selected vendor materials and general supplies efficiently and cost‑effectively. Commitment to continued learning through Assured/Industry training. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail and high accuracy. Ability to interpret work scope from vehicle estimates or work orders. Comprehensive knowledge of vehicle repair practices. Multitasking ability in a fast‑paced environment while working under pressure. Physical capability to bend, crouch, reach, handle tools, and lift approximately 51 lbs. Must provide own tools.
