CNC Machinist

PGS Worldwide is seeking a CNC Machinist in Goleta, CA for a one-year contract role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.

The CNC Machinist will support onsite manufacturing by setting up and operating machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, precision grinders, and CNC mills to produce precision metal parts, mechanisms, tools, and assemblies. This role requires strong machining experience, manual machine setup ability, blueprint reading, shop math, precision measurement, and familiarity with CNC programming software.

Required Skills

• 3+ years of machining experience.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Ability to read and interpret production specifications, production diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical specifications in English.
• Ability to read work instructions and use basic power hand tools.
• Experience running manual machines and performing setups.
• Experience fabricating component parts where setups are non-routine and tolerances are difficult to acquire and maintain.
• Experience following written setup instructions and/or performing unique setups.
• Experience with complex measurements and advanced shop math calculations related to tolerances, dimensions, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
• Familiarity with CNC mills and machine programming software such as Mastercam, CAMWorks, or similar tools.
• Ability to set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and precision grinders.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
• Ability to determine sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup.
• Experience using machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining.
• Ability to fit and assemble precision parts into mechanical equipment.
• Ability to determine required materials, parts, and equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift or move 35-50 pounds for up to 12 hours per day.
• Ability to occasionally push or pull 35-50+ pounds throughout the workday.
• No security clearance required.

Preferred Skills

• 4+ years of experience on 3-axis CNC machines.
• 4-axis or 5-axis CNC machine experience.
• Fanuc and HAAS controller experience.
• Mastercam CAM programming proficiency.
• Experience with CAM programming, CNC milling, manual machining, precision grinding, machine setup, blueprint reading, tolerance work, tooling, feeds and speeds, and statistical process control.

What You'll Do

• Set up and operate machine tools to produce precision metal parts, mechanisms, tools, and assemblies.
• Operate lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, precision grinders, and CNC mills.
• Perform machining work to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
• Interpret blueprints, sketches, engineering specifications, production diagrams, and work instructions.
• Determine machining sequence, setup method, number of cuts, feeds, speeds, tooling, and dimensions.
• Use machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
• Perform shop math calculations related to dimensions, tolerances, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
• Lay out stock for machining by measuring, marking, and scribing reference points.
• Fit and assemble precision parts into mechanical equipment.
• Determine materials, parts, and equipment needed for machining work.
• Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

Work Schedule / Shift

• Onsite in Goleta, CA.
• 9x80 A schedule.
• Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Pay

• $40.63/hour
