The Light Equipment Operator supports essential public works services by safely operating light equipment and performing manual labor to maintain City infrastructure and public spaces. This role exists to keep streets, facilities, and right-of-way areas functional, clean, and safe for the community.

Key responsibilities include operating light equipment and hand/power tools; assisting with maintenance and repair tasks; performing routine inspections and basic servicing; setting up traffic control and work zones; loading/unloading materials; and completing required documentation while following safety procedures.

Required qualifications/skills:
- Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain required endorsements/certifications as assigned
- Ability to work outdoors in variable weather and perform physically demanding tasks
- Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn equipment operation
- Dependable attendance, clear communication, and attention to safety

A Typical Shift

You’ll start by checking in with your crew, reviewing priorities, and confirming equipment readiness before heading to assigned locations across Craig. Much of the day is spent outdoors, rotating between job sites as needs change, coordinating with coworkers and other city teams, and keeping work areas orderly. You’ll pause periodically to adjust plans for weather or urgent community requests.
