Job Title: Chemical Technician – 2nd Shift Job Description

The Chemical Technician – 2nd Shift supports safe and efficient laboratory operations by performing chemical testing, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring compliance with ISO9001 and GMP requirements. This role prepares and leads safety discussions, executes wet chemistry and raw material testing, manages product specifications in the quality management system, and helps resolve laboratory and production issues to ensure accurate and timely quality control results.

• Prepare safety topics and lead weekly safety meetings to promote a strong safety culture in the laboratory and production areas.
• Ensure the quality of products by adhering to ISO9001 standards and established quality control procedures.
• Perform chemical testing and cover any area of testing required in the laboratory when requested or as operational needs arise.
• Monitor sample status in the quality control (QC) database and close and release product results in a timely and accurate manner.
• Identify personnel-related issues within the laboratory, communicate them clearly, and recommend appropriate resolutions to leadership.
• Identify errors originating from both the laboratory and production, such as missing labels on sample cups, incorrect product or customer information on sample labels, missing test results, or erroneous data, and communicate, retrain, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Enter new customer and product specifications into the quality management system and maintain current specifications to ensure data accuracy and compliance.
• Validate Certificates of Analysis (C of A) when they are first released from the quality management system and confirm that correct specifications are in place.
• Initiate specification requests when no existing specifications are available to ensure all products and customers are properly documented.
• Monitor raw materials in quality inspection status and release them in a timely manner to support production schedules.
• Resolve raw material specification issues by collaborating with relevant teams and applying wet chemistry and raw material knowledge.
• Apply GMP practices consistently in all laboratory activities, documentation, and handling of materials.
• Support continuous improvement of laboratory processes by identifying opportunities to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.

• Demonstrated experience performing chemical testing in a laboratory environment.
• Strong wet chemistry skills, including testing and analysis of raw materials.
• Knowledge of raw material properties and their impact on product quality.
• Working knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and their application in a laboratory or production setting.
• Familiarity with ISO9001 quality standards and related quality management principles.
• Ability to use and update a quality management system for entering and maintaining customer and product specifications.
• Ability to monitor and manage data in a QC database, including closing and releasing product results.
• Strong attention to detail to identify missing labels, incorrect information, missing test results, and erroneous data.
• Effective communication skills to convey issues, corrective actions, and safety topics clearly to laboratory and production personnel.
• Ability to validate Certificates of Analysis (C of A) and ensure correct specifications are applied.
• Organizational skills to manage multiple samples, raw materials, and specification-related tasks simultaneously.

• Experience working with quality management systems and electronic QC databases.
• Prior experience in a manufacturing or production support laboratory environment.
• Familiarity with resolving raw material specification issues in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Experience leading or facilitating safety meetings or safety-related discussions.
• Ability to support training or retraining efforts related to laboratory and production errors.

This role operates on a 2nd shift schedule, typically from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with some schedules extending to 10-hour shifts from 2:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., depending on operational needs. The position is based in a laboratory environment that supports production, where chemical testing, wet chemistry, and raw material analysis are performed under GMP and ISO9001 guidelines. Work involves frequent interaction with quality management systems and QC databases, handling samples and raw materials, and collaborating with production personnel to ensure timely release of products and materials. The environment emphasizes safety, structured procedures, and adherence to quality standards, with regular safety meetings and ongoing focus on accurate documentation and data integrity.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Plainfield, NJ.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in South Plainfield,NJ.
