The Operator V, acting as a subject matter expert, operates a variety of production machinery to produce high-quality materials for both internal and external customers. This role assists other operators, sets up and maintains equipment, and ensures product quality and adherence to safety procedures. The Operator V works in various work centers, including Cast Embosser, Precision Embosser, Converter, Flexo Printer, and Utility.

Essential functions performed by the position include: assisting in daily operations, set-ups, runs, clean-ups, and providing break relief; setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining production equipment; verifying materials and supplies, adjusting machinery controls, and maintaining production schedules; handling materials properly, minimizing waste, and adhering to safety procedures; working from blueprints, job specifications, and standard practices; performing routine maintenance and ensuring product quality by examining for defects and consulting with quality personnel; following security guidelines and inspecting all materials and finished products; participating in training to maintain and improve skills; and assuming other tasks as assigned by the Production Supervisor or Team Leader.

Scopes of work include operating flexographic printing presses, preparing for printing, troubleshooting issues, and managing quality and time on the Flexo Printer; setting up and operating embossing equipment for holographic images, maintaining quality, and performing preventative maintenance on the Precision Embosser; setting up, operating, and maintaining embossing presses for holographic images, handling UV curable casting compounds, and performing preventative maintenance on the Cast Embosser; operating die-cutting machines, setting up label applicators, and inspecting finished products on the Converter; and operating various machines, assisting other operators, and ensuring quality outcomes on the Utility.

Position qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, 5+ years of experience working with mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing machines, with 7+ years of experience preferred, knowledge of vacuum systems and thin film coating (preferred, not required), experience making label and foil type products using a wide variety of machinery including print, emboss, die-cutting, and slitting to extremely tight tolerances and very demanding quality standards, and first-hand experience in at least one area of product Cell with a willingness to further knowledge of all other areas within the Cell.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include the ability to use Insight and MAS for troubleshooting applicable operating machinery, excellent mechanical ability, ability to read and use a ruler to measure raw and finished products, strong attention to detail for accurate data collection and product quality monitoring, knowledge of ISO procedures and practice, ability to maintain, retain, and follow safety procedures, basic computer skills required to gain access to Machine and Job Specifications, capability of producing work to an extremely high level of quality to tight deadlines, and flexibility to accommodate a rotating shift pattern, which could include a continental shift pattern.

Physical characteristics and demands include the ability to lift to 40 lbs., ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods, ability to inspect for small defects on products (<0.005"), and ability to observe/inspect moving product under flashing lights (strobe lights).
