Nurse Practitioner - Correctional Urgent Care - $150K-175K per year

Job Title Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner – Urgent Care Correctional Location San Diego, California Overview CoreCivic is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for urgent care duties in a correctional facility in San Diego. The role is part of the facility’s medical program, providing advanced nursing services and patient care to inmates/residents under the supervision of the facility physician. Responsibilities Conduct thorough medical evaluations, physical examinations, and medical histories for incarcerated individuals. Diagnose and treat a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and infections. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, prescribing appropriate medications, therapies, and interventions. Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory work, radiological examinations, and screenings. Provide vaccinations, perform health screenings, and promote preventive care measures within the correctional population. Perform basic technical skills such as suturing, splinting, and injections. Monitor and manage chronic diseases (diabetes, hypertension, asthma, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C). Ensure proper medication management, including prescribing, adjusting dosages, and monitoring treatment effectiveness. Educate patients on disease management strategies, lifestyle modifications, and medication adherence. Collaborate with specialty care providers for consultations and referrals as needed. Respond to medical emergencies within the facility, providing immediate assessment, stabilization, and necessary interventions. Coordinate with emergency medical services or arrange for transfers to external facilities when required. Participate in emergency preparedness planning and training exercises. Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team (nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, dentists, social workers, etc.) to ensure coordinated and integrated healthcare delivery. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records. Adhere to patient confidentiality regulations and the privacy of medical records. Comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing correctional healthcare and professional ethical standards. Stay updated with the latest advancements in primary care and correctional medicine; engage in continuous professional development. Provide training and education to correctional staff on primary healthcare topics as needed. Qualifications Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state/jurisdiction where the correctional facility is located. Experience in providing primary care in correctional or underserved populations is preferred. Strong assessment and diagnostic skills, with the ability to manage a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills. Ability to work effectively in a challenging and dynamic environment. Compensation Salary: $150,000 - $175,000 per year.
