Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA)
Compensation Range: $45-50/hour

Location:   Pontiac, MI; Onsite – School Setting

Position Summary
The School-Based Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides individualized therapeutic interventions that support students with mobility challenges in accessing and participating fully in their educational environment. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist (PT), the PTA implements treatment plans, promotes student independence, and helps remove physical barriers that may impact learning and school participation. Responsibilities:

• Under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist (PT), the PTA will assist in implementing therapy plans, providing direct services, and supporting students’ mobility, strength, and functional independence in the school setting
• Assist the PT in delivering therapy services and exercises to students
• Provide direct therapy services in individual and group settings
• Collect and document student progress under PT supervision
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and the therapy team to reinforce therapy goals in the classroom
• Prepare therapy materials and ensure a safe environment
• Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and district regulations under the direction of the PT
• Help educate staff and families on strategies to support students' physical development
• Create a safe, supportive environment to foster each child's potential

Schedule / Shift:

• Shift details: School Day Schedule
• Hours per week: 35-37.5 hours per week
• Contract length: School Year

Physical Requirements

• Regular sitting, speaking, hearing, and use of hands.
• Occasional standing, walking, reaching, stooping, and kneeling.
• Lifting up to 10 pounds .

Requirements
Education

• • Completed CAPTE-accredited PTA program, Associate’s degree or higher

Licenses & Certifications

• Current Michigan licensure as Physical Therapy Assistant
• Current CPR certification

• Ability to work with students with special needs.
• Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
• May be required to work with more than one adult during the school day.
• Ability to handle and operate standard school equipment and provide clerical services as needed.
• Ability to implement teacher philosophy accurately and consistently.
• Ability to be flexible and maintain confidentiality.
• Demonstrates initiative and creativity – is self-directed.
