Assistant Cook Nevis Public School 210 Pleasant St W Nevis MN 56467 Reports To: Head Cook Classification: Non-Exempt / Part-Time Location: Kitchen, Nevis, MN Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 1:30 PM (School year schedule; hours may vary slightly based on school calendar, and emergency school closures) Position Summary We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Assistant School Cook to support daily meal preparation for students and staff. This role is responsible for preparing nutritious meals in accordance with school nutrition guidelines while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment. Early morning availability is essential. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Prepare and cook breakfast and lunch meals according to planned menus. Follow federal, state, local school nutrition program service and safety guidelines. Ensure proper food handling, storage, and temperature control. Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including equipment and food prep areas. Assist with food service and portioning during meal service times. Monitor inventory and report supply needs to the Food Service Manager. Comply with health department regulations and school policies. Work collaboratively with food service staff and school personnel. Maintain a positive, respectful environment for students and coworkers. 2nd chance breakfast service, and cleanup. Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Self-Direction: Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks without constant supervision, and meet strict statutory deadlines. Confidentiality: Demonstrated ability to maintain the highest level of professional ethics regarding sensitive personnel and financial information. Communication: Ability to explain complex benefit and pay structures to staff members in a clear, supportive, and professional manner. Accuracy: Exceptional attention to detail; a "check-then-double-check" approach to data entry. Education & Experience Minimum: High School Diploma or GED Knowledge: understanding of basic food prep and Kitchen Safety Procedures. Preferred: 1+ years of experience in a school kitchen. Preferred : Food Safety Certification Physical & Mental Demands Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
