Princeton Day School is seeking an experienced Upper School Math Teacher beginning in the 2026-27 school year.
The mission of the PDS Mathematics Department is to cultivate a deep understanding and appreciation of mathematics by fostering a growth mindset and challenging students at every level. With our mission in mind, PDS seeks candidates who are deeply passionate about both their subject matter and their students, and who are dedicated to supporting adolescent learners and honing the craft of teaching. Strong candidates will work well in a collaborative environment and utilize technology to enhance student learning. PDS is particularly interested in teachers who integrate diversity and service learning in the classroom and expose students to the application of mathematics to their local and global worlds.
In addition to teaching 4 sections of Math, a full-time teacher contributes to the community life of PDS as an advisor of 6-12 students, has various duties, and is expected to contribute to school life outside the classroom in an extracurricular activity, such as coaching or clubs. One to four times a semester, a weekend or evening activity or campus event may be required.
For this position, the ideal candidate is expected to:
- Teach upper school math classes to students with a range of academic aptitudes
- Serve as an advisor to 6 -12 students
- Assist in extra-curricular areas of the school
- Assess students' academic and social development
- Provide consistent oral and written communication to students and families
- Collaboratively work on grade-level, department, and interdisciplinary faculty teams
- Demonstrate mathematical knowledge and understanding across grade levels and content strands
- Implement culturally relevant pedagogy and foster a learning environment that supports students' social and emotional needs and their development as independent math learners
- Differentiate teaching and learning based on students' cognitive needs and learning styles
- Collaboratively and actively prepare curriculum that balances content mastery, conceptual understanding, and the development of mathematical literacy
- Develop creative formative and summative assessments and experiences to evaluate student learning
- Employ innovative student-centered teaching practices rooted in brain-based research
- Create and scaffold rigorous, higher-level thinking tasks that emphasize critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and problem-solving
- Provide opportunities for student self-assessment and engagement in the learning process
- Exhibit a passion to teach and learn from young people and colleagues
Required / Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in mathematics or related field (required)
- Advanced degree in mathematics or related field (preferred)
- A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated success in teaching adolescent students
- Affinity for working with middle and upper school students
- Comfort with innovative and forward-thinking approaches to instruction
- A strong commitment to professional growth
- Personal characteristics suitable for motivating, inspiring and nurturing young people: enthusiasm, adaptability, patience, creativity, and a boundless sense of humor
- Advising and/or mentoring experience
- Integrative STEM/STEAM experience
- Experience implementing inquiry-based or project-based curriculum
- Capacity to teach computer science and/or engineering
- Experience teaching in independent schools
Compensation Range : $66,500 - $107,000 a year (this role is eligible for benefits)
