Medical Transcriptionist

Position Overview

Medical language specialist who interprets and transcribes dictation by physicians and other healthcare professionals in order to document patient care and facilitate delivery of healthcare services. Customers served include staff physicians nurses HIM Dept. Administrative personnel Quality Assurance Risk Management Utilization Review outside physicians offices insurance companies lawyers and governmental agencies.

Compensation Range:

$18.56 - $26.92 per hour depending on experience

Education/Experience

Minimum Required:

• Associates Degree; or High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of medical transcription work experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology anatomy and physiology clinical medicine surgery diagnostic tests radiology pathology pharmacology and the various medical specialties as required in areas of responsibility.
• Knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices.
• Ability to operate word processing equipment dictation and transcription equipment as specified.

Preferred:

• Two (2) years experience transcribing medical reports in an acute care setting or non-traditional work setting.

License/Certification

Preferred:

• Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT)
• RHIT
