Acts as the family’s liaison between program/practice support and clinical staff. Triages calls and distributes them to the appropriate program/practice staff. Provides status updates and general information to patients and families. Provides customer service recovery for upset patients and escalates concerns to leadership when necessary. Performs general front desk operations tasks, including prompt and courteous customer service. Verifies and updates patient demographic and insurance information. Forwards issues and concerns to billing or data personnel. Collects out-of-pocket financial responsibilities and balances at the time of service in coordination with the billing department. Retrieves and releases patient records, including transcriptions, lab/test results, and medical records. Monitors patient waiting areas for cleanliness and observes patient signs and symptoms as necessary. Schedules new and established patients. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Able to effectively communicate verbally and in written form in English with patients, staff, and customers of varied backgrounds in a respectful, effective, and professional manner. [Required] Strong interpersonal, organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions. [Required] Ability to act in an autonomous, self-directed manner while maintaining the ability to collaborate with other professionals and non-professionals in situations of high complexity and high intensity. [Required] Self-motivated, with the ability to multi-task and adapt to changing demands [Required] Mature judgement and the ability to handle confidential information within AdventHealth guidelines and applicable regulations [Required] Proficiency using personal computer, word processing and email system. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word [Required] Knowledge of medical terminology [Preferred] Bilingual [Preferred] Education Associate Field of Study in Healthcare or related field Work Experience N/A Additional Information Completion of a Medical Front Office and Administration Specialist Program An equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the stated degree requirement: Associate's Degree [Required] OR 2+ years experience in a complex healthcare setting with primary responsibility of providing customer support to patients in either a scheduling or front desk capacity [Required] Licenses and Certifications Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) [Preferred] Physical Requirements Physical Requirements - Pay Range $17.63 - $28.20 Background Screening Requirement (Florida Law) Certain positions are subject to Florida Level 2 background screening, including fingerprinting, as required by state law.
