Job Summary:

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Prepares the operatory and set up instruments and materials for dentist.
2. Greets and verifies patient information, seats them for treatment.
3. Assists the dentist utilizing 4 handed dentistry techniques and proper passing of instruments.
4. Takes intra-oral and extra-oral x-rays of patients at the request of the dentist, using appropriate safety techniques.
5. Scans x-rays films into patient EMR at proper resolution and contrast. 
6. Dispenses and mixes materials according to manufacturer directions.
7. Takes alginate impressions, successfully applies sealants, fluoride and mixes cement for stainless steel crowns and intra-canal fillings. 
8. Handles sterilization of all instruments and disinfection of all objects that have come in contact with a patient. Weekly does extensive cleaning of the operatories.
9. Stocks and maintains all dental operatories. 
10. Using Dentrix, documents dental history or complaints, records and reports pertinent observations and patient reactions to treatments; documents lab procedures and ensures follow up on results. 
11. Assists with patient triage for walk-in patients.
12. Assists in preparation of dental operatory, and assists as required with patient reception, telephone calls, routine triage and other office duties.

Education and/or Experience:

1. Current Delaware Assistant Certification.
2. Current holds a Delaware certificate as a Radiological Technician, Dental Radiological technician or related certification.
3. Three to five years experience with a general dentist.
4. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly; bilingual skills preferred (English/Spanish).
5. Flexibility to work irregular hours and to work with multi-cultural, diverse patient population. 

Language Skills:

English. Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills a plus

Equipment Operated:

X-ray and panoramic x-ray equipment. Computer use and proficiency required.

Work Environment:

Medical offices or dental operatories in Health Center. Controlled lighting, air quality, and temperature settings. Environmental hazards may be unpredictable including exposure to communicable diseases and patient responses.

Mental/Physical Requirements:

Involves standing, walking, kneeling, bending, grasping, manipulating and squatting and lifting (up to 50 lbs.). Walking or standing may be more than six (6) hours per day. Must be able to work in a standard medical office setting including use of a computer, and standard officeequipment. Must have ability to read computer screens, printed materials and hearing and speech to communicate in person as well as over the phone. Must be able to attend meetings or make presentations at various sites when required. Stress can be triggered by workload and complex cases.
