General Description The Bridge Foreman will oversee the day to day operations of assigned tasks/projects and perform supervisory duties of assigned crew(s). This position reports to the Bridge/Structures Superintendent, and receives their instructions accordingly. General Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Key Duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the overall knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. Education A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred. A minimum of five (5) years or more of industry-related experience is required for this position, with an emphasis on bridges. Key Duties Responsible for the completion of various assigned bridge and/or structure projects/components, under the supervision and leadership of the Bridge Superintendent. Direct supervision of assigned work crew(s), typically consisting of 5-8 team members. Prepare and communicate work plans, according to assigned tasks and responsibilities. Communicate and direct work crew members in the processes and procedures of completing assigned tasks in the construction of various bridge and other structures. Observe work crew's safety performance, and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures; address any deficiencies accordingly. Complete daily reporting, via computer and/or written logs; including time entry, equipment utilization, schedules, etc. Inspect and address any site/project conditions affecting work tasks. Identify equipment, tools and materials needed to complete assigned tasks/projects; communicates needs accordingly. Recognize workplace hazards affecting safety of assigned crew, and address accordingly. Attend project progress, safety and other meetings; communicates applicable information to assigned crew members. Facilitate daily safety meetings with assigned crew members; completes written documentation. Operations and Prior Work Experience This position is typically not an entry-level job, as it requires prior experience in the following: Construction of various Bridge Structure Components Pile Driving Operations Construction of Formwork, including prefabricated systems Girder Setting, steel erection and rebar framework construction and installation Pouring and finishing of concrete Loading and unloading of various materials and/or equipment Checking and marking project layout, including grade stakes and survey markings Confined Space entry Operation of a man-lift Safe utilization of various rigging components used in bridge and structure construction Supervision of crane operations Other duties, as assigned Physical Demands The following physical demands are representative of those that a Bridge Foreman may be required to undertake to fulfill responsibilities: Frequently articulate communications clearly and effectively, including both written and spoken, with others; may require hand gestures, spoken words, computer data entry and/or handwriting. Constant ability to hear, including potential alerting systems, such as back up alarms, horns, and verbal communications. Constant ability to see and recognize surrounding work environment and respond accordingly. Frequent standing during a regular work shift. Infrequent ability to stoop, bend, and crouch. Work may be performed at heights up to 60 feet, requiring climbing ladders, scaffolds and/or stair towers. Potential to work with hands extended overhead, sometimes with hand power tools. Manual dexterity to hand-carry portable hand tools, lumber and other construction materials. Infrequent lifting and carrying of materials and/or tools up to 50 pounds, and up to 150 pounds with assistance. Frequently walk on uneven surfaces in varying weather conditions. Capable of entry into confined spaces up to 15 feet, with provided access routes. Visual acuity to direct and flag for crane and equipment operators under varying light and weather conditions. Capable of safely operating a man-lift. Balance maintenance on uneven surfaces. Ability to access heavy mobile equipment via steps or ladders. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Bridge Foreman encounters while performing essential functions: Work is typically outdoors, with potential for wet, cold, muddy, hot conditions, and some indoor work. Work may expose employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust; PPE is provided to protect against exposure. Routinely works near heavy equipment and moving machinery. Work may involve substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready-mixed concrete.
