Youth Development Mentor

San Diego County Office of Education PASS (Promoting Achievement and Student Success) AmeriCorps Program. PASS AmeriCorps is a mentoring and leadership program for at‑promise youth in gang‑impacted neighborhoods at various school sites in San Diego County for grades 3‑12 and are looking for 35 full‑time members to provide prevention/intervention services in partnering schools. In collaboration with the school, PASS AmeriCorps focuses on improving academics, school engagement, and attendance by providing meaningful mentoring relationships, 1:1 and small‑group character‑building sessions, academic assistance, a safe space for students, and by fostering a positive school climate through monthly school‑wide engagement projects. Program goals are designed to engage participating students and strive to empower youth to reach their fullest potential by becoming positive leaders. Members will serve individually or in pairs at one of 30 partnering schools in Oceanside, Vista, Valley Center, Escondido, Carlsbad, Spring Valley, and San Diego. Members receive extensive orientation, ongoing support/coaching, weekly/monthly meetings, attend/serve at events with fellow AmeriCorps members, professional training on topics relevant to service, career development opportunities, and networking opportunities within the school site, PASS AmeriCorps program, San Diego County Office of Education, and with community partners. We are looking for mature, motivated, self‑starters who want to make a positive difference in the community and the lives of the students we serve. Upon successful completion of the service term, full‑time members earn a $7,395 Segal Educational Award and a $2,605 California For All Educational Award (CFA) — a total of $10,000. Both awards are considered taxable income. The awards are contingent upon final budget appropriation by the state of California and AmeriCorps. Members may use the award to pay for current educational expenses at an eligible institution, to repay qualified student loans, or to do both. Members who relocate for service may be eligible for a relocation reimbursement of up to $300 upon successfully completing the program clearance process and beginning service at their assigned school site. Position availability is contingent upon the PASS AmeriCorps Program‑SDCOE final grant award for FY 2026. Position Details Full‑time only. 10‑month (September 2026 – June 2027)/1,700‑hour service term. Serving Monday–Friday before, during, and after school hours (9 hrs/day).
