Site Safety & Health Officer Position: Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) Department: Operations Reports to: Project Manager Location: Hines, IL Employment Type & Shift: Full-time, overnight shift 4pm-12am CST Job Summary The Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) develops and reviews the Accident Prevention Plan (APP), conducts activity hazard analyses, provides on‑site safety education and toolbox safety meetings, ensures overall safety compliance of the project, and proactively addresses site‑specific safety challenges. The SSHO ensures the project complies with local, state, and federal health and safety guidelines, oversees safety training, and investigates incidents. The role requires daily on‑site presence, reporting to a project site five days a week, and may include housing allowance for relocation if necessary. Responsibilities Create and implement the site-specific Accident Prevention Plan per EM 385 1‑1. Create and review Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) and Work Plans based on the project schedule and work features. Ensure safety submittals are created, submitted, and approved well in advance of preparatory meetings. Be available on site whenever work is performed and conduct inspections throughout the shift. Provide project safety orientations and briefings. Document weekly safety meetings, inspections, deficiencies, corrective actions, man‑hours worked, and any incidents. Lead and document near‑miss and incident investigations with root‑cause analysis. Develop and implement OHS training programs. Oversee disposal of substances per environmental guidelines. Ensure statutes, regulations, and codes are clearly understood and met. Enforce all safety and environmental policies and procedures. Minimum Qualifications 10+ years construction industry safety experience with federal government projects. 30‑hour OSHA construction safety class. EM 385 certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire. Experience managing safety on $20MM+ projects. At least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past four years, including competent‑person status in excavation, scaffolding, fall protection, hazardous energy, confined space, health‑hazard recognition, chemical, physical, and biological agents, and first aid/CPR. Experience managing selection, use, and maintenance of personal protective equipment. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification. Healthcare or hospital experience. HAZWOPR 40, Lead awareness, blood‑borne pathogens, attendant, rescue, general competent‑person, trenching and shoring competent‑person, forklift, man‑lift, and fire watch training certifications.
