About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Women's Services Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 7 AM - 7 PM Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: Required Certifications: ACLS BLS NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) STABLE Must-Have: 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience Mother-baby experience preferred Ability to attend deliveries and provide newborn care Experience with magnesium Description: The unit consists of 14 LDRP beds where patients stay in the same room. There are 2 operating room suites for C-sections on the unit. RNs will circulate and recover patients in the OR. The unit includes 4 triage beds. An average of 90 births occur per month. The unit follows established staffing standards. The labor ratio is typically 1:1 unless attending to 2 cervical ripening patients. Postpartum care is provided with a 1:3 couplets care ratio. Triage follows a 1:3 ratio, with resource nurses utilized if patient volume increases. Common patient diagnoses include those with gestations of 32 weeks or greater, hypertension, and gestational diabetes. The unit serves a diverse population with various medical needs. Nurses are required to titrate drips such as Pitocin and magnesium. RNs must be skilled in managing medications and performing physical assessments. There is an administrative supervisor on every shift, and charge nurses do not take an assignment. Resource nurses assist with breaks and attend all deliveries. There is 24/7 OB hospitalist and Neonatal NP coverage. Anesthesia is also available on-site 24/7. A respiratory therapist is available for troubleshooting equipment. The unit does not have tele-techs; RNs are responsible for reading their own strips. The shift schedule accommodates flexibility for staff, with no guaranteed block scheduling. Weekend work is based on unit needs and requests, with no strict requirements. Traveling nurses are not required to take call. Travelers may float to other units as needed. Scrubs are provided and must be changed at the start and end of the shift. Travelers typically extend their assignments and may return. A no fingernail lacquer policy is in effect due to departmental standards. Two cars are required for travel duos, as assignments may be at different sites. This unit includes embedded NICU services within some LDRP rooms.
