Physician (Psychiatry) -SIGN ON BONUS

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligibility must meet VHA policy requirements and an EDRP application must be submitted within four months of appointment. Program approval – award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from an approved VA school. Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia. Residency training: physicians must have completed an ACGME‑approved core specialty program leading to board certification eligibility. VA physicians in academic training may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies include ACGME programs, AOA programs, or other non‑U.S. programs with at least five years of verified U.S. practice perceived by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee. Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) must be fully licensed physicians in an accredited ACGME/AOA residency and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis. Duties The Mental Health Service Line at the Kansas City VA Medical Center seeks dedicated Psychiatrists to join an innovative and collaborative healthcare team. Work schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑4:30 pm with required on‑call rotation (nights, weekends, holidays). Duties: psychiatrists perform clinical, teaching, and administrative duties, including but not limited to: assessment of altered mental status; gathering verbal and documented history; mental status exam; necessary medical, laboratory, and imaging evaluations; diagnostic formulation for treatment; provision of psychiatric care according to privileges; teaching residents; providing educational experiences to medical students, psychology interns, social work interns, physician assistants, nursing students, and non‑psychiatry medical residents. Staff psychiatrists must meet performance measures, complete timely training, maintain documentation, attend departmental meetings, hospital committees, in‑service programs, and education programs, and participate in continuous quality improvement via peer review.
