Lab Assistant III/Gross Room Tissue Technologist

Job Description We are seeking a part-time (potential full-time) Lab Assistant III/Gross Room Tissue Tech. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Independently performs gross examination, gross description and gross dictation of uncomplicated outpatient surgical specimens under the supervision of a Pathologist and/or Certified Pathology Assistant. Performs lab maintenance duties, including preparation, maintenance and inventory of laboratory reagents, solutions and stains. Performs weekly/monthly routine equipment maintenance. Operates basic lab equipment, including cassette printer, ThinPrep T2000 processor, auto-stainer, automated cover-slipping. Assists with accessioning of outpatient surgical specimens (i.e. cases received from physician offices, endoscopy centers and surgery centers) using pathology lab information system. Assists with answering phones and assisting clients with basic questions and inquiries. Prepares cytology slides for screening and performs routine stains. Maintains pathology materials (i.e. files slides and blocks). Sends out pathology materials for ancillary testing. Organizes the collection and disposal of biohazards and hazardous waste. Education and/or Experience: A minimum of 1 year of related AP lab work experience required. A minimum of sixty semester units of college courses, six of which are units of chemistry, six of which are biology and twelve lab units. #J-18808-Ljbffr
