We provide an interdisciplinary liberal arts education that nurtures compassionate, globally aware, and environmentally conscious individuals who find joy in learning and are prepared to contribute to an interconnected world.Position SummaryWe are seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our collaborative Facilities team and help maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-functioning campus for our students, employees, and visitors.This is a hands-on position with a wide variety of responsibilities, from routine building maintenance and repairs to campus setup, preventative maintenance, and responding to day-to-day facilities needs. Candidates do not need to be experts in every trade. We welcome applicants with general maintenance experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and an interest in learning and expanding their skills.The Facilities team maintains our one-acre Capitol Hill campus, which includes six buildings and multiple outdoor spaces. The Facilities Maintenance Technician reports to the Director of Facilities and works closely with other members of the Facilities team, school employees, and outside vendors.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform general building maintenance and minor repairs, including basic plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, carpentry, fixture, and lighting work.Respond to work orders and facilities requests, prioritizing assignments based on urgency, safety, and operational needs.Conduct routine campus inspections and identify maintenance, cleanliness, or safety concerns requiring attention.Help keep campus grounds and building exteriors clean, safe, and welcoming, including removing litter, graffiti, stickers, leaves, snow, and ice as needed.Assist with preventative maintenance and minor building improvement projects.Troubleshoot common facilities issues and either complete repairs or help determine when specialized vendor support is needed.Assist with clearing clogged drains and addressing other routine plumbing issues.Build, assemble, install, or repair simple furnishings, shelving, fixtures, and equipment.Move and arrange furniture, equipment, appliances, and other materials as needed.Support school events by setting up and breaking down furniture, equipment, and spaces.Respond promptly to spills, leaks, safety concerns, and other unexpected facilities needs.Assist with opening campus buildings, including disarming security systems and unlocking designated spaces.Use appropriate signage and safety procedures when performing work that may affect students, employees, or visitors.Maintain accurate and timely updates in the school's work-order management system.Work collaboratively with Facilities team members and outside vendors on maintenance and campus improvement projects.Perform other related duties as assigned.What We're Looking ForWe are looking for someone who is dependable, service-oriented, and enjoys solving problems and working with their hands. We welcome candidates with a combination of relevant work experience and demonstrated hands-on skills.Basic experience with one or more building trades—such as carpentry, drywall, painting, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical work—and a willingness to learn in other areas.Ability to troubleshoot routine maintenance issues and determine when additional assistance or specialized expertise is needed.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.Strong communication, organization, and customer-service skills.Comfort using email and basic computer systems to receive and document work assignments.Ability to safely lift and move up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.Valid driver's license and ability to meet the school's driving requirements.Ability to work professionally and positively in a school environment serving students ages 11–18.Commitment to The Northwest School's mission and to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming community.Candidates do not need to be experienced in every building trade.
