About the Unit The K8 General Surgery Med‑Surg Unit at Mission Hospital is one of the largest and most dynamic units, with 44 beds dedicated to pre‑ and post‑surgical patients. This high‑acuity, fast‑paced environment requires nurses to manage complex recoveries, frequent pain reassessments, and a high volume of medication administrations. Patient stays average one to three days, resulting in significant turnover—often 20 or more patients admitted or discharged within a single shift—necessitating strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and excellent time‑management skills. The unit is well‑equipped with necessary equipment available in every patient room, enabling nurses to focus on care delivery. Job Summary Provides leadership which facilitates the delivery of professional nursing care for the comfort and well‑being of patients. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide, delegate, supervise and document care and teaching of patients and families. Implements medically prescribed interventions. Qualifications Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing or enrollment in a BSN program with completion within five years of hire. Grandfathering accepted. RNs with 10+ years of experience are exempt. License: Current licensure as registered nurse with the North Carolina Board of Nursing. eNLC license may apply. Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider. Experience: One year hospital nursing experience.
