Supervisory Physician

Overview Position located at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Texas. BAMC is a 425-bed academic medical center, the Department of Defense's largest facility and only Level1 trauma center. It houses the Center for the Intrepid outpatient rehabilitation facility. BAMC consists of ten separate organizations, including community medical clinics around the Army's largest in‑patient hospital. It is staffed by more than 8,000 personnel, providing care to wounded service members and the San Antonio community. Established in 1879, BAMC has a long history of medical service. Responsibilities Provide direct patient care, consultative guidance, and education to patients, families, caregivers, and health‑care providers in challenging end‑of‑life circumstances for inpatients and outpatients with terminal illness or injury. Perform a wide range of medical duties covering consultation for the ICU, internal medicine, general and subspecialty surgical services. Examine patients, recommend and evaluate the full range of radiology and laboratory tests, and make diagnoses. Prescribe appropriate treatments, including intrathecal, oral, topical, rectal, and intravenous medications, nursing care, and therapeutic dietary interventions. Refer to an appropriate specialty consultant only when required for evaluation and/or treatment. Qualifications Basic Requirements for Supervisory Physician (Palliative Care) Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a U.S. or Canadian school. The degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, Liaison Committee on Medical Education, Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, or a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting body. For foreign graduates, equivalency must be established by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates or equivalent. Licensure: Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a physician from a U.S. state, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory. Note: attach a copy of your license/registration. Graduate Training: At least one year of supervised experience in a clinical setting (e.g., internship or first year of residency) after obtaining the degree. Note: attach proof of graduate training completion. Additional Requirements Residency Training for GP‑14: Completed accredited residency training in palliative care with equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4years. Experience cannot substitute for required residency training. If selected for a Physician position: Salary quote will not be provided at the initial offer.
