Ultrasound Technician (Diagnostic Medical Sonographer)The Ultrasound Technician (Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional qualified by professional certification and clinical experience to perform ultrasound diagnostic procedures. The scope of practice of the Ultrasound Technician includes those procedures, acts and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience, has demonstrated competency, and has completed the appropriate ARDMS certification(s).Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesMaintains awareness of all departmental and operational policies of Altus Community Healthcare (ACH).Assists in the maintenance of all equipment in the department, including cleaning and QA procedures.Explains the ultrasound procedure to patients and answers any questions they may have.Maintains ultrasound equipment and areas in which the procedures take place.Performs high-level disinfection on endocavity probes/transducers when necessary and according to policy and procedure.Performs ultrasounds using technique that ensures the transducer (probe) captures images from each angle and area assessed.Evaluates images for quality and ensures that images of the appropriate area/organ/body part are captured.Present images and preliminary findings to physicians and the healthcare team.Maintain patient records and adds notes related to the ultrasound procedure.Perform other duties as assignedSafety/Infection ControlDemonstrate knowledge of and adhere to regulations and ER policies and procedures pertaining to safety, emergency preparedness, infection control, OSHA, fire safety and hazardous materialsPerformance ImprovementParticipate in performance improvement activities as necessaryCustomer ServiceMaintain confidentiality of patient related issuesDemonstrate effective interpersonal skillsTreat all patients, visitors, and staff members fairly and with respectUtilize effective communication methods and skillsExplain all procedures, treatments, and care while remaining aware of language barriersAble to perform care in non-judgmental manner and recognize discrepancies between patient and personal beliefsER PolicyEnsure personal appearance is clean and neatResponsible for wearing identification at all timesAttend all required meetings and in-service educationRemain flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts; participates in temporary assignmentsCompliance with attendance standardsDemonstrate flexibility when changes in assignments are necessaryQualificationsEDUCATION & EXPERIENCEGraduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required.At least 2 years of ultrasound/sonography experience.LANGUAGE/MATH/REASONING ABILITYAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in oneon-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organizationAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
