POSITION SUMMARY:Using the nursing process, you will deliver high-quality direct and indirect patient-centered care. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, effectively communicating the patient's clinical status, and responding promptly to any changes in condition or treatment response. You will demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan, ensuring age-appropriate care for the patient population. Additionally, you will promote the nursing profession through supportive interactions and collegial relationships, reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
COMPETENCIES:- Effective communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
- Evaluate and manage pain using appropriate tools and techniques, educating patients and families on pain management. Ensure documentation reflects assessments, interventions, and evaluations.
- Develop and adjust individualized care plans based on assessments and patient responses, collaborating with other disciplines as necessary.
- Adhere to the five rights of medication administration to minimize errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
- Provide all aspects of patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and promotes positive outcomes.
- Document the nursing process and patient responses promptly using the appropriate tools.
- Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under pressure, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
- Create and implement teaching plans for patients and families based on identified learning needs, assessing the effectiveness of the education provided.
- Practice autonomously in line with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional development while serving as a role model and mentor.
- Understand growth and development principles to provide age-appropriate care, interpreting patient data to identify specific needs.
- Assist physicians with procedures in the peri-anesthesia care setting, including cardioversion and the insertion of peripheral and central monitoring lines, as well as epidural catheter placement.
- Demonstrate knowledge of airway management and the use of relevant equipment.
- Assess cardio-respiratory systems for changes and provide appropriate interventions.
- Understand anesthetic drugs, their actions, and potential side effects.
- Deliver accurate and relevant reports on patient conditions for safe transitions of care.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required upon hire or must be obtained during the introductory orientation period, with ongoing clinical competency maintained throughout employment.
- Critical care experience is preferred.
