Principal Software Engineer (Salesforce)

Job Responsibilities Define architectural guidelines and best practices for Salesforce and cloud solutions. Lead software development initiatives from conception to deployment. Collaborate with stakeholders to align software solutions with business objectives. Introduce and train teams in advanced programming languages, tools and development practices. Ensure cloud readiness and optimal performance of all applications. Lead and mentor technical and project teams at the business function level. Lead the project team in analyzing requirements and providing accurate estimates for design, build, test and deployment phases. Provide technical leadership and mentoring to various technical teams. Collaborate with architects, developers and infrastructure staff to evaluate and recommend technology advancements and solutions for assigned projects. Support the implementation and testing of cross‑functional systems, ensuring systems meet client and business needs. Provide continuous support to internal and external clients for server hardware, operating systems, core infrastructure applications and related utilities. Proactively monitor projects and existing production applications to identify improvements and maintain availability. Analyze and solve production support issues across multiple areas of expertise. Develop design recommendations and create application and integration solutions, including major enhancements and interfaces. Provide leadership for ongoing maintenance of mainframe and/or client server applications or tools. Facilitate on‑time completion of performance, load, functional, vulnerability testing and resolution of issues. Develop new cross‑functional software systems using disciplined software development processes. Perform other duties as required. Qualifications & Skills Deep experience in modern programming languages and cloud development. Mastery of Scrum, DevOps, and Test‑Driven Development. Leadership and strategic planning skills. Extensive Salesforce development experience. Experience with Apex code. Omni Studio experience. Salesforce Platform Developer certification. Experience with Visual Force, Flows, Gear Set, and Bit Bucket. Scalable solution design skills. Education & Experience Required Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. 6+ years of programming experience. Education & Experience Preferred Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. Work Designation & Location Depending on location within the continental U.S., this role may be hybrid or remote . If you live within 50 miles of the Aflac offices in Columbus, GA or Columbia, SC, this role will be hybrid – working in the office at least 60% of the week. If you live more than 50 miles away, this role will be remote, with occasional on‑site visits as needed. Salary & Total Rewards Salary Range: $123,000 - $170,000 (U.S. dollars). This range reflects factors such as education, experience, location, and peer compensation. Potential incentive pay and benefits are not included in this range.
