Job Summary Oversee environmental services operations in assigned areas of the hospital and for related functions in patient and non-patient areas. Maintain overall cleanliness and appearance of the hospital; ensure all employees are present for work and adjust schedules as necessary, calling in additional staff when needed. Efficiently utilize personnel, supplies, equipment and linen; demonstrate and instruct employees in proper cleaning techniques and use of cleaning chemicals and equipment, and familiarize them with departmental policies. Assign work, set priorities, conduct inspections, and document evidence to ensure schedules and pre-established standards are met. Assist in requisitioning, maintaining, storing, testing and rating products and equipment; recommend changes; prepare and submit work orders for defective equipment and building repairs to maintenance. Communicate with Bed Control and Nursing Units on checkouts and patient room status; prioritize assignments during increased demands; proficient in TeleTracker and expediting patient throughput. Counsel employees and refer unsatisfactory personnel to the Manager of Environmental/Linen Services and Grounds in accordance with hospital policies. Cross‑train in other functions to ensure satisfactory operation of the department or permit flexible staffing; flex work schedules to meet departmental needs; staff at other MHS facilities and take “CALL” as necessary on a rotational basis. Prepare records and documents daily to reflect performed work and evaluate assigned personnel. Consult with the Manager of Environmental/Linen Services regarding any problems relating to the department. Assign and supervise personnel in moving furniture and setting up functions. Attend meetings, seminars and in‑service training programs. Qualifications High School graduate or equivalent education (preferred); at least one year of supervisory experience and/or formal management courses preferred.
