Physical Therapist

The purpose of the position is to create, organize, conduct, and administer medically prescribed therapeutic treatment programs to restore body functions and to prevent disability following disease, injury, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education Completion of an accredited program for Physical Therapists recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education or approved successor organization.
• Experience Minimum of one (1) year or relevant experience required.
• Licenses & Certification Incumbent must possess and maintain current State of Oklahoma Licensure for Physical Therapists. Incumbent must have a CPR certification.
• Knowledge & Skills
• Knowledge and experience of the principles and procedures of Physical Therapy and its relationship to health, treatment and prevention of disability, quality of life issues and the value of interdisciplinary interaction through supervision and monitoring of a Physical Therapy Program.
• Ability and skill in assessment, planning and carrying out treatment modalities, patient education and discharge planning for a variety of outpatient situations.
• Knowledge of major aspects of patient management such as evaluation, treatment plan and administration.
• Knowledge of personnel and rehab services management practices, methods and principles.
• Ability to develop and monitor quality assurance plans in accordance with pertinent rules, standards, regulations, policies and procedures as applicable.
• Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, medical staff, administrative staff, health care professionals and the general public both orally and in writing.
• Ability to remain calm and respond quickly in high stress situations as needed.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in an inpatient and ambulatory health care setting. There is common exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. The work may include a certain amount of exposure to hostile and/or emotionally disturbed patients, families, and visitors. Must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as requested and required.

Physical Demands:

Work in the ambulatory health care setting requires considerable walking between exam and treatment rooms, and long periods of moving about the work unit. Work requires regular and recurring bending, stooping, stretching, kneeling, and lifting of patients or similar activities.

Essential Functions:

• Interpret physician orders. Performs patient evaluations. Assesses, physical performance of patient to determine extent of therapy needed, method of therapy, etc. Interprets the progress of patients.
• Plans the method of treatment for patients. Modifies plan as needed.
• Prepares various reports as needed to document progress.
• Maintains patient records that include evaluation, treatment plan, therapy given, progress, etc.
• Trains or assists in the training of students, new physical therapists, interns as needed.
• Provide direct patient care through evaluation and treatment programs including instruction to patients and their families in specific physical therapy programs.
• Plans and carries out physical therapy for general and surgical patients.
• Teach exercises and movements to be performed by patients to prevent occurrence of deformities or to lessen impact of deformities.
• Perform special tests to carry out complex procedures, determines kind and degree of muscle reactions to test and interprets results of tests.
• Assess the level of patient care on a continuing basis and updates procedures as necessary.
• Provide consultation and evaluation of physical therapy services to physician, nursing and other professional at the service unit using tact, good judgment and persuasiveness.
• Delegate patient case loads to physical therapy assistants.
• Keeps clear and accurate records on patients seen in accordance with established policy.
• Regular attendance is required.
• Maintains and cleans equipment used by department and demonstrates responsible and proper use of supplies.
• Performs other duties as required.
