Job Description

The Receiving Clerk accurately processes incoming shipments, maintains organized inventory records, and supports smooth material flow across warehouse, purchasing, and production teams. This role works on first shift in an individual cubicle within a warehouse environment and plays a key part in ensuring that all materials are received, inspected, documented, and stored correctly.

Responsibilities

• Receive incoming shipments by unloading deliveries, verifying quantities, and ensuring items match purchase orders.
• Check packing slips, invoices, and purchase orders for accuracy before accepting deliveries.
• Record inventory by entering received goods into the inventory or ERP system and updating stock levels in a timely and accurate manner.
• Inspect materials for defects, damage, or incorrect items and ensure only acceptable products are received into inventory.
• Label and organize goods by tagging items, sorting them, and placing them in the correct storage locations.
• Communicate discrepancies such as missing, damaged, or incorrect items to purchasing or management promptly.
• Maintain a clean and orderly receiving dock and storage areas to support safety and efficiency.
• Coordinate with purchasing, warehouse, and production teams to ensure smooth material flow and resolve any receiving issues.
• Operate warehouse equipment and material handling tools safely to move, stage, and store incoming goods.
• Perform accurate data entry into ERP and other software systems to support inventory control and reporting.
• Use email and collaboration tools to communicate effectively with internal departments regarding shipments and inventory status.

• Strong attention to detail to verify quantities, documents, and material conditions accurately.
• Good verbal and written communication skills to interact with internal teams and document discrepancies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for basic data entry, tracking, and reporting.
• Extensive experience using Outlook and collaboration tools such as Teams for email and team communication.
• System and ERP knowledge, including experience entering and updating data in inventory or enterprise systems.
• RF (radio frequency) scanner knowledge for tracking and recording inventory movements.
• Data entry experience into ERP and other software systems with a focus on accuracy and speed.
• Ability to work independently with limited direction while managing daily receiving tasks and priorities.
• Experience with material handling and receiving processes in a warehouse or distribution environment.
• Ability to safely operate warehouse equipment used for unloading and moving goods.

• Previous experience in a high-volume distribution or warehouse environment is preferred.
• Familiarity with standard receiving documentation such as packing slips, invoices, and purchase orders.
• Comfort working with technology and learning new systems or tools as needed.
• Strong organizational skills to maintain orderly storage locations and documentation.
• Problem-solving skills to identify and resolve discrepancies in shipments and inventory records.

Work Environment

This role is based in a warehouse environment with an individual cubicle for administrative and system-related tasks. The position operates on first shift, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The work involves regular activity on the receiving dock and in storage areas, including unloading deliveries, operating warehouse equipment, and handling materials. The environment requires adherence to safety practices and maintaining clean, organized work areas. You will regularly use computers, ERP systems, RF scanners, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and collaboration tools such as Teams to perform your daily tasks and communicate with purchasing, warehouse, and production teams.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glenview, IL.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
