Addictions Counselor 2 (Kingsboro ATC)

The Addictions Counselor 2 will serve as a senior member of a multidisciplinary treatment team providing assessment, treatment planning, case management, and clinical services with a high degree of independence. Responsibilities Function as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team and work with difficult and challenging patients. Provide individual and group therapy and facilitate a variety of clinical activities. Present and conduct lectures, videos, psycho‑educational groups, and specialty groups. Act as the primary counselor, managing all facets of clinical services for patient caseload. Intervene when patients are in crisis and apply clinical skills to problem‑solve. Lead patient interviews to complete assessments; perform Psycho‑Social Assessment as part of individual treatment plans and monitor compliance with treatment goals. Complete forms, documents, and records efficiently, including discharge planning, while adhering to confidentiality regulations and maintaining procedural accuracy. Co‑ordinate all facets of patient care and assist with follow‑up and patient transport using NYS vehicle as needed. Provide consultation to less senior staff. Use a computer proficiently for patient documentation and other required communication. Conduct other job‑related duties as assigned. Perform mandatory overtime (MOT) as required by the agency’s 24/7/365 programming. Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, the position may be filled through a non‑competitive appointment, which means no examination is required; however, all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title. Permanent Qualifications Current registration as a CASAC‑Advanced Counselor or CASAC‑Master Counselor in New York State and one year of service as an Addictions Counselor 1. Open Competitive Current registration as a CASAC‑Advanced Counselor or CASAC‑Master Counselor in New York State and one year of post‑registration addictions counseling experience in a certified or licensed program. NOTE: Candidates must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs. Failure to maintain licensure, certification, or Medicaid/Medicare eligibility will result in termination of employment. Background Investigation Requirements Prospective appointees will be: Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC) that includes state and federal criminal history record checks. All convictions must be reported; felony or misdemeanor convictions or any falsified or omitted information may bar appointment or result in removal. Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
