Job Description
This role focuses on welding and fabricating steel components to build heavy equipment from start to finish. You will read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings, perform MiG and Sub Arc welding, and assemble equipment before and after paint. The position offers significant exposure to fabrication work, not just repetitive production welding, and involves working with material handling equipment in a dynamic production environment.
Responsibilities

• Weld and fabricate steel components to build heavy equipment according to specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to correctly assemble and weld parts.
• Use tape measures and other measuring tools to fabricate parts to precise tolerances.
• Perform MiG welding and remain open to using Sub Arc welding processes as needed.
• Assemble heavy equipment both before fabrication and after paint, ensuring proper fit and function.
• Operate motorized material handling equipment, including overhead cranes and jib hoists, to transport materials safely.
• Use power tools such as saws, punches, and related equipment during fabrication and assembly.
• Handle and move materials and components weighing up to 50 pounds as part of daily tasks.
• Work at elevated heights, including on lifts, as required by specific projects.
• Collaborate with a team of welders and assemblers to maximize efficiency and meet production goals.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area in a production environment.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of production assembly experience.
• At least 1 year of previous welding experience.
• At least 1 year of experience reading and interpreting blueprints.
• Ability to use power tools, including saws and punches, with at least 1 year of experience.
• Ability to weld and fabricate steel components using MiG welding processes.
• Proficiency in blueprint reading and applying specifications to welding and assembly work.
• Ability to use tape measures and other measuring tools accurately to maintain tight tolerances.
• Capability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Comfort working at heights on lifts up to approximately 65 feet in the air.
• Experience with weld assembly and general fabrication practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2 or more years of welding experience is preferred.
• Experience with Sub Arc welding or willingness to learn is beneficial.
• Previous experience in heavy equipment assembly or fabrication is an advantage.
• Familiarity with operating overhead cranes, jib hoists, and other material handling equipment.
• Strong attention to detail when interpreting engineering drawings and prints.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team of welders and assemblers.
• Comfort working in varying temperatures in a production environment.
• Reliability in maintaining consistent attendance on a set shift schedule.

Work Environment
This position is based in a dirty, nostalgic production facility that has been in operation for many years. The building is older, and while temperatures are controlled, you must be comfortable working in both hot and cold conditions depending on the season and production demands. You will work on a first-shift schedule, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional overtime on Fridays and Saturdays. The team consists of approximately 10 assembly and welding professionals, and these roles are being added to increase overall efficiency. The work involves regular use of welding equipment, power tools, overhead cranes, jib hoists, and lifts that may reach up to 65 feet, requiring adherence to safety procedures and appropriate work attire suitable for a production welding environment

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of DES MOINES, IA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $27.00/hr.
