Based in Covington, GA, you start your morning by opening a project model in Tekla or SDS2. You walk the 3D frame, verify connection intent against architectural and structural drawings, and map out the deliverables for the day: precise shop drawings, clean BOMs, and CNC-ready files. By afternoon, you’re resolving a question from the fabrication floor, aligning on a detail with the project engineer, and preparing updates for a coordination meeting.

• Produce complete, buildable shop and fabrication drawings for structural steel members, connections, and assemblies.
• Translate architectural and structural design documents into accurate, coordinated details.
• Model components using CAD/BIM tools (e.g., Tekla, SDS2, AutoCAD) to generate high-quality drawings and 3D content.
• Generate and manage Bills of Material, cut lists, and CNC fabrication outputs to support production.
• Collaborate closely with engineers and project managers to confirm design intent and compliance with project specifications.
• Coordinate with the fabrication team to troubleshoot and resolve design-related questions during production.
• Review connection designs and interface with structural engineers as required.
• Ensure detailing adheres to AISC standards, OSHA requirements, and job-specific criteria.
• Participate in BIM coordination meetings and model reviews to maintain alignment across trades.
• Keep meticulous records: manage revisions, track document history, and maintain organized project files.
• Contribute in project meetings and provide clear progress updates on detailing status.
• Maintain revision control and consistent document management from kickoff through closeout.

• Hands-on proficiency with steel detailing software (SDS2/SDS, Tekla) and familiarity with AutoCAD or comparable tools.
• Demonstrated experience as a Structural Steel Detailer or in a closely related detailing role.
• Solid grasp of structural steel design, shop/fabrication workflows, and steel erection sequencing.
• Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail, even under tight deadlines.
• Strong communicator who collaborates well with engineers, PMs, and shop teams.
• Associate’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline preferred.
• Knowledge of applicable industry standards and codes relevant to steel detailing.
• Experience checking or reviewing other detailers’ work is preferred.
