- Handles payments for food items from students and staff, including reconciliation of accounts, (e.g. cash, meal tickets, etc.) for the purpose of securing funds for reimbursement of costs.
- Inspects food items and/or supplies for the purpose of verifying quantity and specifications of orders, ensuring adequate stock, monitoring inventories and/or complying with mandated health standards.
- Prepares documentation (e.g. daily meal sales) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information related to program use and to comply with federal and state guidelines for reporting meal usage.
- Prepares food and beverage items (including estimates) for the purpose of providing an effective food and nutrition services program/meals for students and staff in accordance with established health/nutrition guidelines and in compliance with state and federal regulations and laws.
- Responds to inquiries of students, staff and the public for the purpose of providing Food and Nutrition Services program information.
- Serves food items (e.g. school breakfast, school lunch, special event catering) for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel.
- SKILLS are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: none specified.
- KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicate successfully both orally and in writing; learn food preparation techniques; remain flexible and re-channel activities as needed; follow oral and written instructions; properly lift and carry loads weighing up to 50 pounds; work with speed and efficiency while maintaining quality and safety; make accurate arithmetic calculations; make change and account for money and meal tickets; establish and maintain effective, positive working relationships with others.

- The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions requires the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 2% sitting, 48% walking and 50% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations, some hazardous conditions, and in a clean atmosphere.
