FLEET MECHANIC

The Fleet Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of a company's vehicle fleet. This position involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of vehicles, including trucks, vans, and specialized equipment, to minimize downtime and extend vehicle lifespan. The Fleet Mechanic collaborates closely with managers and drivers to schedule maintenance and address urgent repairs promptly. By maintaining detailed records of all maintenance and repairs, the mechanic supports compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Ultimately, this role contributes directly to operational success by keeping the fleet in optimal working condition and reducing costly breakdowns. Minimum Qualifications Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably with fleet vehicles or commercial trucks. Strong knowledge of vehicle systems including engines, brakes, transmissions, and electrical systems. Ability to use diagnostic equipment and hand tools effectively. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Responsibilities Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on fleet vehicles to ensure operational readiness and safety. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and hands-on expertise. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used and labor hours. Collaborate with fleet management to schedule maintenance and prioritize repair work based on vehicle usage and urgency. Ensure compliance with all safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies during maintenance and repair activities. Order and manage inventory of parts and supplies necessary for vehicle maintenance and repairs. Test drive vehicles after repairs to confirm proper operation and safety before returning them to service. Skills The Fleet Mechanic utilizes technical diagnostic skills daily to identify and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues, ensuring vehicles operate safely and efficiently. Strong problem-solving abilities enable the mechanic to troubleshoot unexpected breakdowns and implement effective repairs under time constraints. Communication skills are essential for coordinating with managers and drivers to schedule maintenance and explain repair needs clearly. Organizational skills support maintaining detailed service records and managing parts inventory to streamline workflow.
