Job Summary
Client and Human Services (NC DHHS) is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator II to support a highly available hybrid infrastructure spanning on-premises Windows and Linux servers and cloud-based environments.
The successful candidate will help maintain secure, reliable, and high-performing enterprise infrastructure, support connectivity between cloud and on-premises environments, assist with database migration initiatives, and contribute to infrastructure modernization and automation efforts.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Windows/Linux administration, virtualization, networking, load balancing, firewalls, cloud infrastructure, scripting, and enterprise monitoring tools.
Key Responsibilities
Support and maintain hybrid infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments, including Windows/Linux servers, virtual machines, storage, identity platforms, and connectivity services.
Assist with secure connectivity between cloud environments and on-premises data centers using VPNs, direct connectivity solutions, routing, and identity federation.
Participate in database replication and migration initiatives between on-premises databases and cloud-managed database services.
Perform system administration activities including patching, configuration updates, automated deployments, performance tuning, log analysis, backups, and capacity planning.
Administer and troubleshoot F5 BIG-IP traffic managers, including VIP configuration, pool management, SSL profiles, and health monitoring.
Assist with Palo Alto firewall administration, including security policies, NAT rules, and operational troubleshooting.
Collaborate with network teams to troubleshoot Layer 2/Layer 3 networking issues involving routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, and load balancing.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, system procedures, and standard operating procedures.
Support incident response by investigating system issues, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
Perform vulnerability management activities, including system scanning, reviewing findings, prioritizing risks, and implementing remediation.
Support new system deployments, infrastructure upgrades, cloud initiatives, and automation projects.
Work closely with technical teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure reliable enterprise services.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of hands-on experience supporting Windows and Linux server environments.
5+ years of experience with hybrid infrastructure, cloud services, or cloud migration activities.
Strong understanding of high-availability architectures, redundancy, and enterprise infrastructure.
5+ years of experience using PowerShell, Bash, or other scripting languages for automation and troubleshooting.
5+ years of experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
Strong knowledge of cloud-integrated infrastructure, including AWS, Azure, or hybrid environments.
Experience supporting connectivity between on-premises and cloud resources.
Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, and switching fundamentals.
Experience with enterprise monitoring and alerting platforms such as Splunk, CrowdStrike, Security Onion, or WhatsUp Gold.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred / Highly Desired Qualifications
Hands-on experience administering F5 BIG-IP load balancers.
Experience with Palo Alto firewalls, including security policies and NAT.
Hands-on experience with cloud networking.
Experience with database replication or migration projects.
Familiarity with automation and configuration management tools.
Relevant certifications such as:

RHCSA / RHCE
PCNSE
F5 CA / CE
